sorry, but that review isn't cute or revalatory, if you live in california and haven't heard of love, then what the hell kind of music are you listening to? you obviously have no knowledge (or a small amount) of 60's groups, as their name is dropped by any discussing the subject. i find it insulting that you "just hand out and have a few drinks" with someone many people would have the smarts to actually talk to about his music and music in general which you seem to know very little about, no offense!

An interesting tale.......2003-07-04

I got a call last night from a friend inviting me down the pub for a drink, when I get to the pub I find the guys sitting down chatting to a guy who is in town for a music festival in our home town (Guildford) and is in a band called Arthur Lee and Love so I get chatting and drinking and we all have a laugh and go our seperate ways for the night. I get home and decide to search for the band to see what stuff they do and to my surprise I find out that Arthur Lee is a bit of a legend in his own right and that baby lemonade are his band at the moment and the guy I have been drinking with all night is Mike Randall!

So I listened to a few tunes which were great and now have to get the cd, very cool indeed!

This is an honest record. For all the talk about alternative music, the industry has become so homogonized that you have to ask yourself: "Alternative to what?" You want truly alternative music? Try Mike Randle of the great L.A. pop band Babylemonade! His sound is distillation of what must be his favorite sounds: 70's and 80's pop via McCartney, The Eagles, The Knack and even a little Prince. But he adds some unexpected twists such as a little lounge on "A Flat By The Sea", and cabaret/torch song on "Out of My League". And to top it all off he has the class to end the show with an lushly epic ballad in the tradition of Love's "You Set The Scene" (Mike's opus is titled "Summer Solstice". If you want some thing truly outside the box, try this.
