Customer Reviews:
I'm a contrarian..........2006-06-24
Because I think the best thing The Who ever did was their debut album "My Generation". The raw edge to Pete's guitar, the raspy harmonies between Pete and Roger, the way Keith doesn't sit down and play drums but rather gets behind and wages war with the drum kit...these are what made that album their pinnacle, and why this brand of mod r&b was so exciting.
If this makes you think, "Yeah, you're right," then this Solarflares record is for you. It embodies everything great about The Who's early material. Yet, this is not some mere throw-back--the sound and feel on this record is timeless rather than anachronositc.
Case in point, the instrumental "Girl In A Suitcase" creates the image of Robert Vaughan and Patrick McGoohan running around with guns on television--and faceit, they haven't made programs this good since Robert Vaughan and Patrick McGoohan were running around with guns on telelvision. "Watch From Shadows" and "Reflections" belong on *any* garage compilation worth its salt.

Wow! Groovy Mod at its Best!.......2005-04-16
Each Solarflares album gets better. This is laden with 60s-style wah-wah guitars, groovy organ, and a tight tambourine-shakin' rhythm section. Calling all mods!
Medway Masters Do It Again!.......2003-02-09
This is the third offering The Solarflares, now with Parsley full time on organ duty and where the first album (Psychadelic Tantrum) was brilliant, the second (That was then and so is this) even better, this belter blows them both out of the water.
The album kicks off with 'State of mind', think of the Fleur de Lys or Fire and you approach the power of this song, superb! This is followed by 'Feet the wrong way round' a wry look at one mans feelings about the embarrasment of trying to dance. The other highlight on side 1 (I have the vinyl copy not c.d.!) is Girl In A Briefcase (think Man in a Suitcase and you'll get it) an excellent instrumental for a 60's spy show which never existed outside Graham Days mind.
