Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Broken Glass?? No way!.......2004-11-24

The Frank and Walters are responsible for some of the most criminally underrated and commercially ignored music to ever to come out of Ireland. From their first album, with it's boisterous hits through it's Dave Couse ( A House ) produced ' very difficult ' second, there was easily enough material for total, worldwide chart domination. Glass, is the bands fourth album. Following it's predecessors ( Beauty becomes more than life itself ) slight leanings towards indie-electronica, It's positively infested with the shadows of Can and Kraftwerk. Kicking off with pounding dancefloor indie of ' Underground ' the album sets sail trough a sea of reckless electronica, that on first impressions leaves the seasoned Franks fan a little cold. But wait, you really need to scratch the surface to this baby before seeing what's really going on. For a start, and never as evident as on the spluttering beats of ' Isn't it time ? ', the majority of the record was still produced using guitars, although filtered and processed. And also, it's not that it's all cold pads and punchy beats. ' New York ' is as beautiful and touching a song as they've wrote ( Q Mag called it the best song about New York in decades ). ' Forgiveness ' is all Cure with Spectrum Computers, and it's typical Franks sing-a-long ease ( Until you realise what you're singing ) and ' Talking bout you ' is one of their best Pop songs.

For fans of Notwist and Kraftwerk, a perfect introduction. For all others try ' Grand Parade ' first

5 out of 5 stars Franks and Walters get better.......2001-01-18

I first heard two songs of glass... and went straight to amazon to get it. Fairplay they had it, What an album. The Frank and walters are the most underated bands around, if not the most underated irish band ever. '6 becomes 9', the maturity of 'sinking,' the funkiness of 'underground'. The excellent guitars on 'forgiveness'. The experimentation is tasteful and not overdone, 'Talking about you' is just complete. I hope these guys make some money. They deserve it with their talent and with all the mediocre music presently around. As they say theirselves "You can make it if you try".
