Album Description

The songs from Hedwig and the Angry Inch performed in true glam-punk fashion by a group of Cleveland's finest musicians. Things get roughen up a bit and the tempo, along with the heat, is raised a few notches. Yet songs like Origin of Love and Hedwig's Lament get the careful treatment they deserve. If you are a fan of the music of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, add this to your collection. You won't be sorry.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars More punk, less classic rock.......2005-07-09

What I love about this version of Hedwig was an infusion of punk and post-punk into what used to be a very classic rock oriented album. This album has supplanted the original film and stage versions in my head.

1 out of 5 stars Forget this hed..........2004-02-22

I was surprised I'd never heard of this recording, being a Hedhead myself, and immediately purchased it on Amazon as soon as I'd stumbled across it when looking up the soon-to-be-released 'Wig in a Box'.

I adore the original cast recording. And here in Texas I've seen this production twice and have loved seeing two leads other than Mr. Mitchell perform the role. Indeed I have nothing against anyone else who steps into the role of Hedwig. However, I cannot recommend this recording.

I sure it was something to see in its original Cleveland production. But as a recording it is quite inept. The songs are a mushy dirge; the tempos are slower when they ought to be harder. The whole affair has a soft, thin kind of texture to it. As a result, whatever charisma and drive lead singer Dan Folino might have had on stage is lost as an audio experience. Indeed, his take on Hedwig is smoother and more masculine, but the quality of the recording seriously tears him down.

It is simply a cheap recording that will only give satisfaction to those who perhaps have already seen it (see previous reviews.) But if your a Hed-completist like me, you'll probably want this in your collection even if you can't abide to listen to it.

5 out of 5 stars Real talent is a gift..........2003-12-15

Often, when songs/albums are "re-made, re-released, or re-done," the listening audience is left longing for the magic of the original release, maddened by the sad attempt at "tribute" that most cover songs/albums achieve. This album accomplishes what most covers seldom do -- it surpasses the musical quality and emotional power of the original. I am truly privileged to have viewed the production and to own an autographed copy of the CD. It is always in my CD player. I expect big things from Mr. Folino, and I will always think it an honor to have been considered one of his friends. Go show the music world what real talent is, Dan.
