I'm off to Buckethead Land.......2005-12-10
Strap in...because this album is one weird, crazy ride. Buckethead Land is like a crazy amusement park mixed in with a bit of japanese Tranformer/Godzilla, Willy Wonka, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie themes (one of my favorate flicks) all in one, with a little bit of Bootsy Collins thrown in on the side, and of course the man himself: Buckethead; who is one of the most talented, well rounded musicians of all time. This guy does everything and likes to blend the genres together (Rock, Rap, Techno, etc.). His guitar acts as his voice. He can do alot with his instrument. He can make it roar, and he can make it cry. I think this is an album that you should listen to all the way through to truly experiance. That being said, this album isn't for everybody. I could see people being annoyed by all the interludes and skits and such, so if your looking for a straight up instrumental album with not so much distractions, I recommend "Giant Robot" over this one, since it has many of the same classic songs. Though it it is missing my favorate song off of this disc "Computer Master" which is the reason I bought it. The track starts out with a very funky slap bass with a cool distortion, then transforms into a melodic guitar ballad, and then breaks out into a slammin' metal riff with weird computer effects scattered about the entire song. This is definetly a must for any hardcore Buckhead...head. I recommend this album if you like instrumental guitar music, rock music, or are just a little bit weird inside. Buckethead Rocks!
My Personal Favorite.......2002-01-30
I Love This Album {than Again I love all Buckethead albums}............
But for Some Weird Reason I like this One The Best, But I Just
cant belive this Is the End For Giant Robot , who Died while
Fighting Gulitine Who Might Be the evilest of all Monsters &
robots. I will Miss Him ,to Johny. Is It the End for Giant
Robot?.......................
Any way , Bucketheads Idea of Makeing a werid story out this
CD ,tured out pretty cool{Reminds Me Of A GIGANTOR
episode ........Makeing it a must for B-HEAD fans
Good fun, but low on actual songs........2001-10-27
Bucketheadland is a trip... a trip through a demented world of wacky theme parks, combating robots, and twisted weird stuff that makes no sense (unless your name is Buckethead). And guitar. Buckethead is one of the weirdest musical characters I've seen, and behind his mystique are some very impressive songwriting skills, not to mention insane, super-kinetic guitar playing. You certainly get the latter on this 2CD release, but the former is less prevalent. There are 33 tracks here (not the 21 that Amazon's list shows), but very few are more than 90 seconds long. A lot of them are just weird, mostly in the middle, is little more than weird noodling, wacky guitar solos, bizarre voice clips, some cool riffs, and neat musical ideas ("The Haunted Farm" has some spooky guitar). When it comes to songs, though the quantity is limited, you get some cool stuff. "Park Theme" is like the Bucketheadland theme, with tight grooves and exhilarating riffs & solos. On "Giant Robot Theme," Buckethead uses the guitar to create symphonic textures in a way that reminds me of Joe Satriani's "Hill of the Skull." "Giant Robot vs. Guillatine" is a battle put to music, in the tradition of Rush "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" and Yes' "The Gates of Delirium." It's as good, of course, but when you throw in the cheesy monster movie clips with the speed metal riffs it's good, light-hearted fun. "Computer Master" is one of our white masked friend's best songs. It's an eight-minute song that covers more musical ground than you can shape a stick at! Funky bass, quiet acoustic melodies, aggressive rhythms...it's all there. There's a second disc as well. It features techno remixes of some of the other songs, and there's nothing notable. If you want to hear some cool techno from Buckethead, get Somewhere Over the Slaughterhouse. (Amazon sells it... do a search!) I'd say that all Buckethead fans should pick this up, but if you're new to this crazy dude, start with Giant Robot - the best starting point.
