Album Description
The mighty behemoth has arisen! FLOOR returns with 34 minutes of bone-crushing, down-tuned mayhem! Enormous walls of chaos smash noise mongrels coast to coast, border to border! Deep within the bombstring assault lies a sweet ear for melody, like a secret coupling of MELVINS and JOY DIVISION. Welcome to FLOOR's legendary, long-lost first album, recorded in 1994, but cryptically, mysteriously never released... until now! Be warned: this is raw and direct, pulverizing and intense, with melodic undertones and a dark groove building and exploding! Your ears will never be the same! <P>The final track is an instrumental: one riff, two notes, sixteen minutes. Feeling lucky?
Customer Reviews:
Amazing album.......2007-03-09
I got into Floor as a result of learning that the mastermind of Torche, Steve Brooks, was also the mastermind of Floor. This is Floor's first album and its a monster. The album plays out like a mudslide, a powerful flow of sludge working its way down a slope. Two of my favorite tracks are also the longest ones on the record. Both "Dove" and "I remember nothing" clock in well over ten minutes long and can only be described as a wonderful never-ending riff. If you are a fan of Neurosis, Isis, Pelican, Torche, Black Sabbath, or any Doom or Stoner Metal you MUST check this out. Also highly recommended is Floor's last self-titled record. For the record, if anyone has the opportunity to check out Steve Brooks new band Torche live, they play a great many songs off of both Floor albums. ROCK ON!!
Heavy, Alternative, Memorable.......2005-12-31
Those are the things that come to mind after listening to this album. Floor seem to be more of a cult band than anything else, and although that's pretty cool in it's own right they deserve so much more respect. They should be as 'famous' as Helmet, in a sense, as i'd say people who enjoy Helmet would definitely enjoy Floor, if not moreso. Floor seem to be an even heavier, angrier version of Helmet, mixed with Eyehategod and to a lesser extent Sleep. Fans of those three bands in particular should get the most out of this album and this incredible band.
As soon as you hear the first song, "Who Are You?", you'll be hooked. Totally mosh-worthy, totally aggressive, totally in-your-face..this song is the perfect opener in my opinion. Steve Brooks' vocals/yelling/screaming suit the type of music Floor play perfectly, and even his sort of spoken words on the song "In A Day" fit well with the mood of the song.
I also love the guitar tone Floor has. All of their songs are heavy due to this guitar tone they have. Some of the songs on this album especially can be similar to the band Eyehategod in that there's some feedback and "Beeeeeeeeeeep" type riffs going on, but then other riffs sound similar to what Helmet might play so it's hard to put Floor into one sort of genre..i don't really think they fit into any sort of genre personally.
"Dove" and "I Remember Nothing" are the longest songs on this album, going for 18:02 mins and 15:57 mins respectively. They never get boring though, which is the awesome thing. If you're into Sunn 0))), Earth, Boris or Sleep (Or Doom Metal in general where songs last way over the 10 minute mark and the guitars droooooone), you'll appreciate those songs i think. To think this album came out in 1994 is amazing, since Earth were doing their thing around the same time as well. Which is what i mean by saying Floor should be more well-known and respected than they seem to be.
This CD and band are incredible, and if you're a fan of the bands i've already mentioned you should definitely pick this and their other album up immediately. I don't think you'll be disappointed. My own personal experience with listening to Floor for the first time was...Wow. They mix so many different styles of Metal together, and pull it off so well. This album is totally 5/5.
