Customer Reviews:
A fun CD to listen to............2006-12-14
I'm not sure what people expect out of a tribute cd? It's not suppose to be a carbon copy of the original thing! If so, it would be totally pointless. With that said, I feel like the musicians and especially the vocalist give their 100% when it comes to paying tribute to Journey. I'm really impressed with Eric Dover from Slash's Snakepit! Maybe he should've tried out for Journey when Steve left the band! If you enjoy vocals like I do and like to hear various takes and talent, then give this cd a shot. It's a fun cd to listen to.
Want Steve Perry ? Then buy a Journey CD !.......2004-08-15
All of the reviews of this CD are assinine. If you wanted Steve Perry you should have bought Journey CD. If you REALLY expected these song to be done in a Steve Perry voice you are just plain stupid. This cd rocks and unlike most of the reviewers of this cd I found it to be pretty cool as I have an open mind to tribute cds. The songs by Kelley Hansen of Hurricane rock. No there is no other Steve Perry..he's a one and only but it seems odd that all these Journey fans don't complaim about the Steve Perry voice clone that Journey has today. Take it for what it is people..A TRIBUTE CD !!!!!!!!! Besides what are you complaining about Journey made money off this cd too... Duh !
NOT WORTH IT.......2003-09-05
THIS IS AN INSULT TO ALL JOURNEY FANS AND STEVE PERRY ALIKE.YOU DONT TRY TO REPRODUCE THE MONA LISA OR STATUE OF LIBERTY--THESE ARE THIGNS THAT STAND FOR SOMETHING IN PEOPLES HEARTS.JOURNEY MUSIC IS NO DIFFERENT.I UNDERSTAND THESE ARTISTS ARE PAYING TRIBUTE TO JOURNEY--BUT SOME THINGS ARE BETTER LEFT ALONE-UNTOUCHED IN ALL THEYRE GLORY--THANKS FOR TRYING GUYS --BUT NO THANKS!!
Who's Cryin' Now? Any Journey fan, that's who........2003-07-15
I know it's easy to make fun of them now, but back in the late 70's and early 80's, Journey ruled the airwaves. Steve's stunning voice, Neil's melodic guitar, it was great radio rock.
I bought this collection, just out of nostalgia for those great radio songs. I had no idea that anyone would go to the trouble of covering an album's worth of Journey songs, and then do such an awful job. I'll say this: Listening to this album (and I've yet to make it the whole way through any one song without hitting the 'skip" button and going to the next one)you really appreciate Steve's fantastic voice (no surprise) and the quality playing of the other Journey players.
If you thought the synth on Journey's version of "Separate Ways" was cheesey, wait til you hear the kiddie-keyboard they use for the covers version. Better yet, do yourself a favor, and don't listen at all. The vocalist on the cover of "Anyway You Want It" is so far out of his range you can hardly hear him over the music. That song, an anthem to summer, love and lust, deserved better.
There are a couple of decent vocalists, but seriously, there is no point at all to this album. They didn't try to rework the music or make it contemporary-it just sounds like Tuesday night at the Karoake bar.
Very poorly done all the way around.
