5 out of 5 stars New Chapter of the MBK - and I'm Likin' It.......2002-02-24

Yes for those who don't know Palos Park is a suburb of Chicago. For thoses of you who have seent them live and own there other albums, then you will like this best. Although I must say that they do move away a little from their swing, 20's style jazz. Yet this is still a great album. The first thing to notice is that Mike Thompson has taken up electric bass and has put down his upright bass, only a bass player like myself would notice this. This does two things, one that helps to give a bit more of a groove to the music and it also give a fresh sound to the group. Yet the Cherry Poppin Daddies uses an electric bass, but let not go there. On the whole the album seems to draw more from the Chicago Blues scene of the 30's-50's. On "Devils on my back" has a very much Chicago blues feel. Now yes the band is from Chicago, but this is there real first attempt to play the blues more than jazz. There are jazz progressions but they interwoven with the music that you don't notice it and with that said they pull it off very well. One track that is amazing to listen to is "Will go around in circles" you just can't help but wanna dance or do something.

It seems that they are "spreading out" on this album and seeing what else the band can do. And if you are up to following the band on the journey this is a well done album. Yet for those who ONLY like there first two then this album is not for you.
