Customer Reviews:
One Of The Best Edgar Winter Albums!.......2006-03-20
Now I enjoy Edgar Winter's commercial rock stuff like "Frankenstein",even if it is pretty bloated. But the 1977 recording 'Recycled' features everything that makes Edgar Winter such a great talent.White Trash are his most musically diverse and talened outfit to be sure and more modern artists like Prince must have been listening very closely because at it's core 'Recycled'is all about the groove, musical and lyrical freedom. If you want to get to the basics of it 'Recycled' is Edgar Winter's 70's funk album-with rhythms that stay on the one, some smooth grooves and plently of hot horns and clavinet riffing."Puttin' It Back","Shake It Off","Stickin' It Out","Open Up" and the closing jam "Competition" are all superb examples. All of them have great group singing but Edgar's own unique vocal gymnastics are the part I find most impressive.Of course Edgar Winter/White Trash are diverse enough to add one pop oriented (if like minded) tune with the catchy "Leftover Love"-to most people that could be the strongest tune here. And of course "New Wave" has that same crazy gospel touch that made White Trash so enjoyable in the first place. For lovers of slower, less manic music "Paralell Love" is an extremely strong example-showing off great vocal harmonies and arrangements and (like everything else here) filled with great soulful sax wailing from Winter himself!"The In And Out Of Love Blues" is a good genre excersise but in my opinion even the blues pieces on Winter's brilliant debut 'Entrance' sounded like mere attempts to emulate his older brother Johnny and isn't too convincing.Edgar Winter is far more at home with funk, soul, rock and jazz then he is with roadhouse R&B and blues but this is still a good song. Why 'Recyled' is out of print domestically is unknown to me.But personally the way I see it is this-I love Rick Derringer and especially the late/great Dan Hartman but Edgar Winter with White Trash and as a solo artist is brilliant, gifted and innovative but is hopelessly indulgent, loud and commercial with The Edgar Winter Group. It's pretty clear for people who understand music that soulful grooves and jams as well as jazzier ones are Edgar Winter's forte and his writing and vocal style are more comfortable in those areas. So to anyone who does (or wants) to understand that simple truth I highly recommend 'Recycled'.
A Rare Gemstone.......2004-01-12
If you can get your hands on this album by all means...
It has some of Edgar's best work.Leftover Love is great to listen to while your out driving on a hot summer day with the windows rolled down.Stickin It Out was the single from this album and it should have gotten lots more attention as the music is a ray of sunlight.Parallel Love is some of the best early smooth jazz I have ever heard, a great romantic tune to listen to with that special some one.
Puttin It Back reminds me of Old Trash and is a great beginning. The In And Out Of Love Blues is a classy blues number which will have you wishing it never ended.
A must buy for any fan of Edgar.
Shake It Off is hillarious as it seems to be White Trash's answer to the then dance craze.
