Customer Reviews:
Discover Scotland's finest.......2005-09-25
Gallagher and Lyle are master crafsmen of songs that stay with you. 'Seeds' is just one example of their exemplary talent to combine fresh melodies and lasting lyrical content with an unmistakeable scottish longing for what's lost and what's past or passed.
From the lost love remembered in 'Layna' and 'Remember Then' to the haunting laments in such as 'The Clearings' and 'Cape Cod Houses' they create a visual and senses-filled landscape that's both universal and uniquely of the old country.
I first heard this material live thirty one years ago in Hanley Stoke-on-Trent in a half empty hall. It still remains a constant play on my car or home system. Do yourself a favour:get connected to a duo who never fail to deliver. And if you get this one you won't be able to stop at one!
This is their best album....so cool that it's finally on CD but not very good sound...........2004-08-30
In my opinion, this is their best album....their 3rd duo release. Glyn John's amazing production and some of their best material makes this a really great 1970's album.
This is its first CD release worldwide. Unfortunately, River was NOT able to get the actual tapes, even though these were legally leased from A&M! So, the sound is rather muffled...almost no highs....very disappointing since this Glyn Johns produced LP was really superbly recorded. Oh well.
(For those who are not too familar with them, they were the songwriters and members of the important 1970-71 UK band, McGuiness Flint, who had two huge worldwide hits, "When I'm Dead And Gone" and "Malt And Barley Blues". Before that, Gallagher & Lyle were signed by Paul McCartney to work at Apple Publishing. They contributed songs to Mary Hopkin during her Apple days.
