Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The best album of 2005.......2006-03-08

This freaking amazing debut from Faker is full of extremely catchy 80's influenced power pop. There is not one weak track on this album. Why these guys haven't been overhyped like Wolfmother, I have no idea.

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars really, but not quite good enough to warrant rounding up to 4 stars.......2006-01-22

Of all the people to be writing the very first review on here about Faker, I don't understand why it's me. I know people who are completely obsessed with these guys, whereas I'm just more so a fan of their songs. I first heard about Faker with the release of their 'Familiar' EP (which I gotta say is pretty good too). The title track of the EP reappears on 'Addicted Romantic' for the obvious reason that it is one of the band's greatest songs, as evidenced by it's 'live favourite' status. Faker's power-pop, or however you want to describe it, style can irk many, but it can also appeal to fans of bands like The Cure (mainly during their more upbeat stages), Echo And The Bunnymen and even The Clash. Faker definitely belt out pop-rock tunes with a British edge - Nathan's vocals are quite obviously inspired by the aforementioned bands, in addition to other great bands from the 70's/80's period.

Overall, this album is a very solid debut LP release by the Sydney five-piece, with standouts being 'The Familiar', 'Hurricane' (responsible for one of 2005's most sung chorus lines), 'Teenage Werewolf', 'Quarter To Three' and 'Kids On Overload'. But even then, the rest of the tracks on the album are great too. Also, check out their cover of Talking Heads' 'Psycho Killer' on their 'Hurricane' single.
