Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Brad Osborne dubs it !!!.......2006-03-24

This CD is originally a dub set produced by the great Brad Osborne, named " The Sound Of Macka Dub Vol.1 ", on Clocktower Records. I assume you know what dub is.

What makes this CD one of my favourites in dub music is 1: the production by Brad Osborne, and 2: the drum skills of CARLTON Barrett. Like Lee Perry, Brad Osborne has his own distinctive heavy, natural and sometimes mystical sound in his dub mixes.
However, where Lee Perry is in my opinion overrated, Brad Osborne
is underrated, though he too has produced a lot of albums, mainly dub.
CARLTON Barrett used to be the drummer of the Wailers, and I love his way of playing because of the variations he does, for instance his use of the bass-drum.

This album begins with two versions of the same riddim. The first one is instrumental, the second is heavy drum and bass with beautiful thunder sounds and a deep atmosphere. It's like day and night. No lesser tracks on this CD, except for maybe the last track. Two tracks also appeared on a Lee Perry dub album in, of course, Lee Perry mixes. No voices on this CD. It's pure instrumental dub music. The way in which instruments are mixed in and out, the echos and stuff; very effective. And the two above-mentioned tracks have that wicked kinda keyboard sound, that has been seldom used in reggae music. Musicians include Carlton and Aston " Familyman " Barrett, Glen Adams, Bobby Chung, etc.. Mixed by Phillip Smart! Recorded in first half 1970's.

5 out of 5 stars ``Bad`` Macka to the I-tation moments. By: Ras Mandingo........2002-08-20

This is some serious dub from the barrett brothers (the Wailers drum and bass players). If you are a dub listener, this will put you up. If you don`t know dub, good way to start. Is also good to hear more then one version for some of the rythms. This is dub from the ``elders`` of roots.

This is macka dub really, for the moment you give thanks and praises to the almighty, with your burning offering in hand, makes the heaviness of the world feels light and Irie. This is spiritual music for spiritual moments.
