5 out of 5 stars Incredible.......2004-07-21

This album is beyond words to describe. Its powerful in all the messages that the musician is expressing, while the photography located in the cd jacket is just as astonishing. Michael Plaster is an amazing performer who has the ability to paint pictures with his music, and melt hearts with his words. I truly appreciate all that he has given the world musically. Thank you Michael for letting us all take a peak inside the world through your music.

5 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Maturation in SWS's Sound.......2003-05-16

This CD would be brilliant even if it wasn't just one guy (Michael Plaster). But the fact that it is makes it all the more intimate. Contrary to the beliefs of one person, there is structure to these songs. It just isn't the predictable, cliched song structure heard in most popular music. And ambient Sadcore, the genre in which I'd classify this, isn't your typical popular music. If you are looking for normal, trite songs, don't buy this. These songs are drawn out, each note yearning and stretching like a dying man taking a last breath. (At approximately 75 minutes in length, you definitely get your money's worth). The emotion in one note of this music is much greater than that in an entire pop CD. The chord progressions and melodies are incredibly beautiful, the performances vulnerable, and the voice and lyrics even more so. Plaster's lyrics on past SWS releases are known for being the most intimately beautiful and sad things ever sung. This CD is no different. However, there is a noticeable maturation in his songwriting here. No two songs sound alike. Each has a different structure and/or different arrangements. Speaking of which, the blend of electric and acoustic guitars, piano, synth pads, and processed drums, all dripping with gorgeous reverb, is as perfect as one could wish for. I would not change any part of any song on this album. My favorites here are "The Wedding", "Nani", "Aileron", "Salt Angel", "Gaze", "Happy Valley", and "I Give Up. Goodbye". If you listen to the sound clips featured on this page, be aware that they will not give you an accurate representation of this album or SWS in general. You must observe this CD in its entirety to fully understand it. When you buy this (and every other amazing SWS album, especially "Hope Was"), listen to it on high-quality headphones with the lyrics in hand. Let the experience of Soul Whirling Somewhere take control of your mind and soak deep into your heart. You will never be the same.

3 out of 5 stars draining.......2003-01-02

There are maybe 3 or 4 good tracks on this cd. The rest all sounds wish washy. There is no structure to most of the songs and the muscianship is quite mediocre. The vocals however, are intriguing, soft, and emotional. You just wish it would reach some sort of peak, but the songs just never reach the next level (like in I give Up, goodbye, a great track). For just being one guy, this is quite good and Im sure it will only get better in time.

5 out of 5 stars All that isn't wrong with music.......2002-03-09

is found on this album. Exceptional. Do yourself a favor. Get it.

The only thing missing is more...
