Album Description

Over three years in the making, Cryptooology is Yowie's debut album. Yowie is a dual-guitar and drums trio from St. Louis who has been stunning audiences in the Midwest with their befuddling barrages of sonic kung fu. They accelerate the progressive-rock rhythmic sensibilities of Ruins, Yes, Magma and King Crimson and mutate them with the shriekier side of DNA, Big Black, Henry Kaiser and Slayer. The band incorporates many variations in time signature, tempo and tuning, but no matter how complex things get, their compositions remain cohesive and compelling. <P>Earlier this year, with their debut still being recorded, Yowie's live show garnered them a nomination in the Riverfront Times 2004 St. Louis Music Awards, alongside local acts as diverse as Nelly, Chuck Berry, Jay Farrar and Chingy!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Genius.......2007-04-08

This is the most original and creative piece of music I have ever heard. If you are a open minded musician you will atleast appreaciate the academics of this.

4 out of 5 stars a good ol' frightning mess.......2006-01-06

This is a very scary and goofy band . First off they have a sweet virtuoso drummer who is very tribal and chaotic, yet very precise. Similar to the chaos of Hella just not as spazzed out. Theres two guitar players who play along with the drummer perfectly. The catch is... What they are playing almost sounds like a random mess. Some of it maybe. The truth is that they have abanoned melodies in a traditional sense, and both guitar players wail at the same time often playing around each other ,different pseudo-melodies,tinkering lines and riffs. Actually in an original way. Which isn't designed for the normal human being . More for the musically open-minded or strangefolk such as myself. This is enjoyable, but more enjoyable in a humorous, silly ??? kind of way. The world needs more bands like Yowie. Very puzzling band.
