The sound is current like Coldplay and old school like Beatles, frenetic like Audioslave and smooth like Fastball. <P>There is life after the Strokes... It starts here: Melting POT Roast the new black.
Customer Reviews:
Some bands just get it.......2003-12-10
So a buddy of mine from new york sends me the link and says check this band out, and I do on the website, and i end up buying the CD. The CD sounds great and the only drawback from listening to the songs is they get stuck in your head for days. The new black is great, they situated themselves right in the sweet spot of radio friendly rock, the songs are catchy and have lyrical ideas that everyone will find some connection to, be it breaking up or longing for something to believe in...yet it doesn't drift into the mushy whiny stuff that pervades the airwaves with all these 'emotional' bands. These guys just like to rock and definitely have fun doing it. There's a song about a serial killer picking his next victim with great wit...something entire album has no shortage of, fresh punchy, clever, poignant lyrics sung with a voice that you think you've heard before but you havent. The album seems to flow together well from song to song and I could easily invision this stuff being rocked out live. Everyone should check this CD out just to hear something familiar because it rocks and new because it absolutely is! Friends, Eulogy, Emale and Hero are songs not to miss.
melting pot roast is sweet.......2003-11-25
I really like this album. I have found myself singing the songs, in my head, at work. I can definitely hear some similarities to Fastball and Coldplay. But, I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys some of the Beatles' later albums, like the White Album and Abbey Road. There are a couple upbeat songs, some mello songs, and for those with a dark sense of humor, i suggest you listen to the last track.
