Customer Reviews:
a CD for anyone. this will not bore anybody.......2005-05-08
I haven't reviewed a CD in a while and I had never planned on writing more reviews, but this CD just flat-out deserves so much more attention than it has gotten.
I really don't know where to begin so that 90% of the people who start reading this review don't say "not my style" - ANYBODY can enjoy this.
The single most impressive part of this album is the music video for track 2, "Under Fire." It ranks up there with and above most of the popular music videos. Some of my favorites include Stratovarius's "Infinity" and "Hunting High and Low," Nightwish's "Nemo," Edguy's "King of Fools," Rhapsody's "Unholy Warcry" (or whichever one the video is for - I forgot), Thunderstone's "Virus," and many more. Under Fire beats just about all of these.
As with just about every album you can find, tracks 3 and 4 seem hard to follow, but the first 2 songs on Cloudscape are beyond belief and tracks 5-12 are all 9.5/10. The last song "Losing Faith" has lyrics that'll please gothic rock/metal fans, where Under Fire is a song that discusses what's wrong in the world today and that we need to do something about it. Most of the songs are told in the 2nd person, such as "Everyday if Up to You."
The singer knows what he is doing just as well as someone like Fabio Lione, Roy Kahn, or Tobias Sammet. The band has 5 members and then a guest keyboardist, who does a whole lot more than you'd ever expect a "guest" musician to do on an album. The keyboards on this album are comparable to Tunnelvision, Twilight Ophera, Kamelot, and other bands like them - NOT bands like Children of Bodom, Dark Tranquility, and Sonata Arctica. Keyboards are EXTREMELY atmospheric and will impress anyone who likes a LOT of keyboards in their music.
The most important thing is how original this CD is. I have roughly 370 albums and I have never heard anything like this album before. What I'm trying to make you realize by saying that is "woah... so... they don't copy anyone else. All their ideas are things I've never heard done before." And that's exactly it - these are original song topics. Bands like Thunderstone write what has already been written, just in a new way. I don't know about you, but I can't take that anymore!!! All I do now is search for unknown bands and hope their lyrics are like that of which I have never heard before. From what I hear, Italy's "Concept" is like that.
I hope I helped you in deciding whether to or not purchase this (wonderful) album. If I helped, please say so! I have a lot of other reviews (and now, I have my own list here on amazon!), so read them when you get a chance. Type in "Tunnelvision" and you should get to the list. I also now have a new list. Type in "Altaria" to get to that one.
I am Clouded By Scape!!.......2005-05-02
This is another superb Rock/Metal Album of 2005. I am not sure whether CS would considered themselves to be in Prog Genre but who cares.. This album which is their debut proves them well. Excellent song writing, very melodic and heavy as well....As all I can say that every swedish metal that comes out are destined for success and recognition around the world. The formula for their never ending metal conquering is their mindset towards creating new and refreshing music, not folowing popular or mainstream masses. This is the way to be unique, distinctive and be recognize for their creativity and musicianship. Eventhough I live in America... I thought America would be producing top Metal Acts but I was wrong....The majority of Greatest Metal Bands are from Europe.... Let Europe continue to embrace the world with their fantastic musical talent of the otherworld. If you are into clean vocals, melody, heavy guitars with keyboard driven rhythm, pondering drums with double bass.. this is for you....Highly recommended!!
this swedish metal band rocks hope they come to the US.......2005-04-28
I got this album from my Dad who got it from a friend that works with him in a refrigeration company and I've got to say that I am hooked on cloudscape. They have awesome metal guitar riffs and cool keyboard instances in some of their songs. and they are a little longer then most songs are but they are pretty awesome. this band has a great future ahead and I hope that they come to America and rock out Swedish style! lol.
