Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars The Killer rock but this isn't the ultimate live release.......2003-08-22

POINT ONE:
The review below gives an incorrect track listing; the reviewer was probably confusing this cd with one of the dozens of similarly titled quast-bootlegs available. To set the record straight: The Prestige Records cd entitled "In Concert" is 18 tracks long, as follows:
1. Great Balls of Fire
2. Hey Baby
3. Just Because
4. Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On
5. Drinkin' Hadacol (Hadacol Boogie)
6. Roll Over Beethoven (w/Linda Gail Lewis [I believe, uncredited])
7. Live Medley (Boogie Woogie Country Man; Rockin My Life Away)
8. Sweet Georgie Brown
9. Little Queenie
10. Sweet Little Sixteen
11. High School Confidential
12. Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee
13. Down The Line
14. Come On In
15. Me And Bobby McGhee
16. Mona Lisa
17. Georgie On My Mind
18. What'd I Say

Total time: 57:16

Now that that's done, on to the cd. The sound quality is stellar, but, like many of these off-label issues, the release is hurt by a total dearth of liner notes. Indeed, there is no indication of when/where the show(s) was recorded. In a further unfortunate similarity to other such cds, the issuers chose to fade in and out between songs, eliminating the chatter that is such an entertaining part of the Killer's live show (lest ye be on the end of his wrath). It is therefore quite probable that the songs were reordered (when does he ever open with Great Balls?), and even possible that the songs were culled from multiple shows. These complaints aside, this IS the Killer, and we are treated to some ripping renditions and improvised lyrics (e.g. "Boogie woogie man from tennessee / My name is J - L - L / I'm from hell and I'm well and I'm damn sure well tonight"). Buy it and love it despite the annoying fade outs: even if you have other Jerry Lee live recordings, recall that while he never devolves into pointless wanking and jamming, he NEVER does a song exactly the same way twice -- a lesson today's radio-friendly pablum of all genres would do well to remember.
