More Than Moog Madness.......2005-01-13
Some cite Robert Moog merchandising his synthesizer and later the minimoog (along with similar contraptions) as a watershed for rock music. Certainly, many musicians incorporated technology that Jerry Fielden has termed "analog instruments and modifying effects" into their compositions. And few did so with more gusto than Salem Mass in their Witch Burning LP.
Almost as noticeable as the keyboard work are strident vocals prevalent throughout the album. However for most cuts, vocals seem little more than simple convention or prelude to segue into the raging instrumental passages. Witch Burning, in particular, transmogrifies into moog madness.
No monster, this album is more than a mere showcase for minimoog 1023. Witch Burning is a decent rocker which warrants a spin.
