Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Unfold the Future Indeed!.......2004-03-05

First and foremost, this is an amazing album. Period. The Flower Kings mix soft ballads, with "rock" songs, with jazz instrumentals, with classic epics. This is one of the finest albums I own, and has been in regular circulation for months, along with Pain of Salvation's 'The Perfect Element' and 'Remedy Lane', Evergrey's 'In Search of Truth', and Symphony X's 'The Odyssey'.

Now, I'll run through some of the highlights. Well, the whole album is a highlight, so instead, I'll run through my favorites.

Devil's Playground is shocking, and its their third and final epic of the album. I absolutely love this song, and Daniel Gildenlow's backup vocals and lead at the end adds to the grandeur of this tune. A prog rock masterpiece in every sense of the word, and more.

Rollin' the Dice is a very good song. Difficult to explain...They use the vocals of their lead vocalist, Daniel Gildenlow, and Roine Stolt. Great song.

Fast Lane starts off more of a 'rock' song than some of the other ones, but then turns into a very proggy 'gospel' tune, almost. Daniel's vocals, again, are a highlight here.

Black And White is a great song that begins as a ballad, but evolves into an instrumental song. Absolutely breathtaking - they revisit many of their previous themes, and create yet another masterpiece.

The Truth Will Set You Free is their first of three epics. Although I don't praise this song as much as everyone else on Amazon.com seems to, it still is an amazing song.

Genie In A Bottle is a crazy song, but is still very good. The addition of Gildenlow's vocals makes this a classic.

Thats all the room I seem to have - I'm limited to a 1,000 word limit. I could write a novel about how damn good this album is. I could then sell that novel on Amazon.com... Nah. You've read enough. Go purchase this album. Will it change your life? Perhaps, but probably not. But it will heighten the enjoyment of listening to music quite a bit.

1 out of 5 stars I'm sorry, but this CD is awful.......2003-12-22

Being a King Crimson fan I read in a magazine about the new prog rockers such as the Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, etc. I'm sorry folks but this CD is awful. I should have known that a Swedish prog rock group is an oxymoron. The music is not compelling, there are no melodies or lyrics that linger. These guys are not Yes, King Crimson, or Genesis. I've been critical of Transatlantic before, but the weakness of the Flower Kings makes Transatlantic prog rock gods. Maybe it is my age, or I'm too involved in the early prog rock movement to appreciate the modern prog rockers. If so my apologies, however, this CD is awful.

3 out of 5 stars They can and have done a lot better than this !.......2003-11-02

Up until now I have played this CD probably 30 times but apart from the first song (which is a long one and also a classic)there is nothing else on the first or second CD I`m getting much enjoyment from. I would have preferd Quality over Quantity and I wish The Flower Kings would concentrate on producing one very solid CD in the future rather than two CD`s of material not hitting the target (like I know they can do).I love Tomas Bodin`s keyboards up until space revolver, then he kind of blended in and to me this has damaged the Flower kings vintage prog sound that I liked alot. I know Roine Stolt is a master on the guitar, I just think maybe its Time for the Flower Kings to get a great singer , anyway something has got to give in the vocal department Transatlantic knew Roine Stolts voice was less than perfect for high Quality progressive rock. To sum it up, If you own all the other Flower King CD`s get this for the first song, If you own none I`d get " World of adventures" instead of this ,start from there and work onwards through them all. Some of you people wont like what I have just said, but I see great things in the Flower Kings and when I don`t believe the Artist I`m reviewing has produced a magnum opus I`m not afraid to say so in my reviews

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Prog Rock.......2003-09-22

The Flower Kings have released some pretty amazing CD's in the past, most notably FLOWER POWER and STARDUST WE ARE. After the rockingly enjoyable RAINMAKER, I was very intrigued to see what Roine Stolt and crew had up their sleeves for UNFOLD THE FUTURE. Letting the more straightforward approach alone, they've gone ahead and recroded perhaps the most progressive CD in their long-running history. A 2 CD set, it simply astounds that this band can create such amazingly intricate songs, with such tightness. Two songs run over 25 minutes, including the first YES-like track, "Truth Will Set You Free". The sound is amazing, huge, especially with the addition of a new drumme, who simply astounds. Listen to the intensity of "Genie In A Bottle", and you won't be able to not smile. This band is TALENTED, and deserves so much more recognition. If you like YES, you'll love this band, as they seem to be doing the type of progressive tunes that YES should still be doing. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars The new "Close to the Edge".......2003-09-06

The title of this review is the highest compliment I can give to any album... CTTE, in my opinion, is the greatest progressive rock album of all time. This, the latest release from Sweden's Flower Kings, rivals CTTE in musical creativity, self-generating atmosphere, playing, singing, ah... what more could there be to a CD than this?
