The Good
"In the Cut" uses some great electronic effects to compliment its melodic guitar work. Bardowell has a smooth and earnest vocal delivery that only gets better during the song's emotional highs. Guitarist Tommy Denander pulls of a quick and impressive solo. "Through My Eyes" brings the energy level down and has a more serious feel to it. Philip expresses his deepest feelings for the woman he loves who wastes her time with the wrong guy. This one is sure to melt the hardest of hearts. The anthemic track "Heart of a Hero" is a riff oriented song that has plenty of inspiration delivered on Bardowell's part. I could easily see this one as the theme song of a movie hero.

If "Heart of a Hero" is the theme for our movie hero, then "I Gotta Believe" is the love for our hero and his lady. The track relies heavily on Philip's vocals prowess and ever-emotional piano. Bardowell isn't just a vocalist, but he wrote a couple of tracks on the album. "She Will Never Know" is proof that he knows how to write a simple yet effective rock track. It's not surprising that "Dreaming With My Eyes Wide Open" sounds a lot like a long-lost Survivor track. It was written by Jim Peterik, and has all the elements that hooks and emotional elements that brought them to prominence. To close out the CD it's just Philip and the piano again on the heartfelt track "Voices of the Heart". The key changes is what really draws you into the song.

The Bad
Nothing notable.

The Verdict
In The Cut displays Bardowell's ability to switch from inspirational melodic rocker to tender and emotional balladeer. No matter what style he chooses, Philip delivers everything you'd expect to hear.
