Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars - a good but not great collection.......2004-04-26

The Tremeloes were one of many sixties pop bands to emerge from Great Britain. The band mostly goes forgotten these days, which is a shame because their music is actually very good. Perhaps the band's claim to fame is scoring a Decca Records contract in 1962 - believing that guitar-based rock and roll groups were on their way out, the label chose these guys over the Beatles! This was obviously a big mistake, as Decca would find out the hard way, but the Tremeloes did score a few hits - damn good ones too. How does this so-called best of measure up? Read on and find out.

PROS:
-If you're a casual fan of the band and you don't want to hunt down every one of the band's individual releases, this compilation is a good alternative. Silence Is Golden, Here Comes My Baby, Even The Bad Times Are Good, and Good Day Sunshine are all here for your listening pleasure.
-This set doesn't just rely on the hits - there are tons of underrated masterpieces that are remarkably good.

CONS:
-The compilation is only forty-two minutes long, and you can fit eighty minutes onto a single compact disc! Why waste all of that space?
-Everything is in MONO! Why?
-Since these guys weren't too popular in America, you're probably going to have a tough tine tracking this compilation down.

OVERALL:
Overall this is a good compilation for a good band, but I feel it could have been better. Still, it's one of the few compilations of the band's material available in America, so if you're a fan of sixties pop music, and you come across this little gem, pick it up.
