Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars the BEST time for them! You can have them now! .......2006-11-09

Much has been said, for my $$, the pre-famous famous famous Hall & Oates, some important items to notice(?)

~~ Somehow, Daryl Hall's voice was BETTER then, it is horrible now! (Todd Rundgren, another from Filadelfia who was influenced by "soul" musics among other styles voice has gotten better with age, even if he loses some "range" ). But back to Hall and Oates. He actually SOARS and sings with a confident, and in pitch falsetto in these old recordings. oates voice also very good, still is, I imagine . (I do not listen "newer" Hall and Oates since "Sara Smile" I think the last composition from them I enjoy!

~~From the strange mix of "gringo soul-brothers" mexendo with country rock stylings, where they dismisses themselves as NOT being ROCK musicians; despite the Rundgren -produced "War Babies" recording~~ Later Hall and Oates BECAME nothing but generic rock -roll influenced with a bit of the soul and disco. Lot of hits, I admit. "you" can have 'em, haha!

~~They had a LOT in common with Senhor Rundgren, I think this a GOOD thing. The Todd keeps growing, the Hall and Oates (especially the Hall!) keeps boring me! Dont get MAD at this statement, please take it from one for whom rock is not my major idioma!

This set, for me, very uneven. For the H & O fans, I imagine nothing you wont find enjoyable, so take my words with some consideration.

Excelente tracks

~~"Lilli Are You happy" SHOULD have been a CLASSIC, I think too progressive a composition for the POP radio, who knows??

~~"Beanie G and Rose Tatú" Really a Rundgren style composition, soulful, but dare I say "rocks out", and a nice crazylouco solo from Todd

~~ "Las Vegas Turnaround" Catchy and soulful, SHOULD also have been a hit, but ABSURDO lyrics!
~~"She's Gone" a classic, but "Sara Smile" I like better

~~"Just a Kid" nice mix of genres, and reflects that Hall was not the SHOW, as in later inarnations. Oates quite talented too,he is featured on this track.

~~Yo're Too Much" some nice twists, and hall sings the stars ofut of it!

So, my "every now and then "POP" musics reflections, now, back to the other idiomas I love and know better .

Great CD, but for a few items that just NOT my beach, I only rate THREE stars for my taste, 4 stars and 1/2 for rock/soul musics fans

5 out of 5 stars Past Times Behind.......2006-09-16

This album appears to be a combination of all of Hall and Oates work with Atlantic Records. In other words every song on this album you can find somewhere else. But there is one exception. People very familiar with Hall and Oates know that there are demo versions of some of the songs from Whole Oates that appear on a bunch of collections of early Hall & Oates demo albums. The most famous of those collections was named Past Times Behind. Many of those demos are good songs that were recorded poorly. The song Past Times Behind from those early demos doesn't appear on any record released by Atlantic Records: Abandonded Lunchonette, Whole Oates, War Babies or No Goodbyes. So I was surprised to see it in the tracks. After listening to it I realized the version of Past Times Behind [with Oates on lead vocals] on the Atlantic Collection is not from any of the demo albums, it's cleaner, with better harmonies, more insturments and is arranged much better than the demo version. That one song is probably an outtake that wasn't added to the Atlantic albums.

4 out of 5 stars Hall and Oates before MTV*** .......2005-08-04

I was never a big Hall and Oates fan, but I enjoyed some of their early songs, so I took a chance on this collection...hoping to hear some cool songs I had never heard on the radio...I was surprised to find that this is as solid a collection as I own...and I have a vast CD/LP/tape collection. I had never known that Hall and Oates were as folksy, soulful, and mellow a blend of pop as you can find. A cool CD for any collection. I bought this a few years ago, and still I listen to it every now and then...and remember how great it is. I think its well worth tracking down.

3 out of 5 stars What's wrong here??.......2005-03-14

What was intended to be a substitute for 'No Goodbyes' is disappointing - not because of the music, but with the omission of the 'rare' track 'Love You Like A Brother,' which should have been included.

And do we really NEED 8 of the 9 'Abandoned Luncheonette' tracks here when you'd be better off with that CD in its entirety??

If you can't buy this used, find the Japanese import of 'No Goodbyes' or the original Atlantic LP. The 'less is more' rule would apply here, especially taking into account H&O's later overload of RCA compilations, which they probably have no control over.

5 out of 5 stars Essential for fans unfamiliar with H & O's early recordings.......2002-03-01

"Atlantic Collection" is absolutely essential for fans who only discovered H & O during their halcyon years with RCA. For sure,
they hit pay dirt with a consecutive run of hits on RCA starting with "Sara Smile", but not before having experimented with
