some stats: No Longer My Concern (2002) 12 tracks Total time= 63:58

With a voice that resembles the higher registered vocals of,say, Chris Isaak, Michael J. Sheehy croons these sad, gloomy ballads of loss and perversion.

There is redemption also in these sounds of misery, but the listener has to work at finding it. Most of the tracks crawl in a slow somber brooding tempo, embellished here and there with background "industrial" ambience.

Of his 3 cds so far this seems the most diverse musically, and consequentially I enjoy the most. But be aware, all 3 have the same singular doom seeping through, and to the uninitiated can be quite claustrophobic.

His soft spoken/sung ruminations on the dark side of life are so hellishly pretty you'll have to take a second to catch your breath when you come to realise just what it is he's singing about.

You get the feeling that some of these tales are quasi- autobiographical (I shudder to think). One particular example is 'Dark Country Moment' which at first sounds like some tale of young lovers, star-crossed and taking to the road to find a better life, greener pastures as they say. Suddenly the "crooner" gives you subtle hints that this is an older man with a little girl and you're witnessing a child abduction/sexual molestation revealed from the abductors' point of view! Scary stuff.

btw, there is a hidden track after the closer 'Twisted Little Man'. After this track ends wait @4min and you'll hear 'Ballad of the Pissed Apostle(a reprise)', which is a 7 minute Dylanesque rocker.pretty cool.
