Hailed as the Swedish king of Prog Rock, Roine Stolt has been the driving force behind The Flower Kings, Kaipa and The Tangent since the 1970s. Amongst their loyal fans, The Flower King (1994) is seen as perhaps the first true Flower Kings album. Part of the Artwork Collector's Series, limited to 3000 copies worldwide.
Customer Reviews:
this is was prog was meant to be.......2006-11-04
Roine Stolt's solo effort that stared the Flower Kings. This is a masterpiece. Not a dog in the bunch. The Flower King suite sounds as fresh today as it did upon release.
Good stuff!.......2005-12-30
Apart from the mediocre opening track, this is really good and a must if you are into the progressive rock thing.
A Higher Intellect.......2005-09-13
This CD is amazing and definately the best Roine & the Flower King's have done and that is saying alot since many of their albums are superb. This album really set the stage for what the Flower Kings are all about and brought us into their world of higher intellect through music. Like looking down from somewhere above on all that has happened and all that is going on in this world, laying the path for the new world. AND ROCKING! I bought the Artwork Series version as well as owning the original for many years and this album sounds just as good in 2005 as it did in 1994.
Exceptional.......2005-08-28
whoever wrote that last review is obviously an ametuer prog fan. This album is not a ripoff of anything, completely original. composed entirely by Roine stolt himself, the leader of my favorite prog band, the flower kings. every track in this album is epic, especially, track 1,3,4,5,. pretty much the whole album is spectacular, except for song 2, wich is not so great. but if you like progressive rock, then this album is for you. and check out Roines side project Transatlantic, which is with Roine, Neal morse, the leader of spocks beard, the bass player from dream theater, and the drummer from marilion (another good prog band) this is really good as well. but Roine is the best guitar player this side of Joe Satriani. and he is a spectacular composer. infact i would say he is one of the most talented artists in the prog world. not to mention that the flower kings is the most popular and successful band in sweeden and in the US as well, yes even better then dream theater , which i dont really consider them that progressive in the first place. but thats a whole other soap opera. so if that doesnt help you out then i dont know wat will.
BUY THIS ALBUM!
This album blows.......2004-07-21
Not the Prog or Retro you are expecting. Just more rehashed ripoffs of great songs already recorded. I like Prog. But due to the availability of disgustingly affordable digital recording studios one could have in thier homes, we are bombarded with these knock offs. Why buy a CD "like this" or "like that?" If you like the CD that this artist is being compared to.. buy the real thing. This is far from the A List of Proggers today: ala Dream Theater, Spock's Beard (not the silly, worthless self indulgent side projects of those band members either). I am talking the band that sounds like a band. (...)You can't buy from the site so you simply come back to Amazon and get music you would rather have.
In closing, never buy an album leading you to believe it "new," when it is simply an old - an very unwell recorded product and underdeveloped material - and if there are no "audio samples" (...)...you might only hear the coins hitting the rocks on the way down once, but it would probably be a much more rewarding auditory experience. You never know?
