Album Description

Life at Sea is a Chicago based quartet dedicated to crafting edgy pop with a flair for mood and texture. Their influences range from The Police to Jane's Addiction to Archers of Loaf. These influences and their unique style of playing come together to create an interesting and familiar sound reminiscent of some of these bands, as well as other bands that created their own style - like Radiohead, The Cure, and REM. The lyrics deal with themes of isolation, redemption and veracity, and their live set employs the use of samplers and film footage. These boys can captivate both new and old rock, indie rock, and punk fans alike. All of the boys have recorded numerous times and released many other records with many other bands (The Wayouts, Man is Five, L' Spaerow, The Firebird Band, The Dynamites, and Braid - to name the familiar). This record was recorded with Alex Gross at Studio 11 in Chicago from July - September 2003. With Erik Shepard on vocals, guitar, and doing some programming; Chris Broach on guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals; Jason Weitzman on bass, and backing vocals; and Steve Znavor on drums and in control of MIDI sequencing and programming.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2006-05-01

I love this record! It is so refreshing to hear such great music coming out of Chicago. This album reminds me of some of my favorite bands (e.g. The Cure, The Police, Fugazi) but still manages to have a sound all their own. I am amazed by Life at Sea's ability to layer intelligent, interesting sounds and still create hooks that continue to stay in my head hours after the record ends. I can't wait to see what the band will put out next!

5 out of 5 stars this record killed me........2004-06-29

Its great. It takes notes from all of my favorite bands. tons of guitar effects, vocal hooks that i can't get out of head...

I can't wait to see what direction they go on their next record.
