Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Mother Superior. . .just CRANK IT!!.......2002-02-08

...As a neophyte to MS's self-described "heavy soul" style, I picked up this album and was instantly knocked flat by the wild, exciting guitar work of Jim Wilson, the driving and almost vicous drumming of Jason Mackenroth, and the funky bass stylings of Marcus Blake. There's something for everyone on this album, no matter what your taste. For the hardcore rockers, check out tracks like "Whore" and "Zero's Back in Town." If you like a little easy listening, we've got the lowdown, ZZTop style sound of "Fell For You Like A Child" and the soulful, heartfelt "Follow Me Home." For those of you who gotta have a little blues in your aural diet, "Doghouse" is the only word I have for you. And of course, for the rebel in all of us we have the anthem protesting the sorry state of the airwaves, "Radio Sucks," and the Thin Lizzy-esque "Such a Worthless thing."
With hard rock legend Henry Rollins producing, this record is given the glossy, professional sound it deserves, and yet still manages to stay true to the exciting "live" sound that can be found on all of the band's previous releases. In short, MOTHER SUPERIOR is a must for everyone who wants to rock.
For all those who believed that gutsy, adrenalized rock was dead, I have only two words for you: MOTHER SUPERIOR.

5 out of 5 stars The best bunch of musicans on this lame planet today........2002-01-17

Mother Superior are the tightest, best, most rocking, only important band to come out in the 90's. They have been playing music for 20 years or more. Their latest self titled album is their best, and the best to come out in a long while. Also check out this band as they tour with Henry Rollins. These boys have the midas touch. Checkout all of their stuff.

5 out of 5 stars This Is REAL Rock n Roll!!.......2001-11-27

This is an amazing album by an amazing band. There's not a bad song on here! That's rare in today's music. ALL of Mother Superior's albums are great! Excellent musicians, great lyrics, you name it they got it. I'm amazed when I see their albums at the used record store. I think to myself "Who in their right minds would sell this?" Whoever you are I'm sure you listen to the Gin Blossoms, or the Counting Crows!! Whatever floats your boat man. Buy ALL of their albums. You probably won't find them in the record store, so order them at Amazon. NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Support good rock and roll, And annihilate pop and boy bands.......2001-10-17

I saw these guys open for the Rollins band (the funny part is that they are the Rollins band without Henry) they blew me away and I bought the Cd as soon as the show was over. This Cd has not left my disc changer for a month and a half.
All my freinds have this Cd now and I would suggest it to anyone who likes good rock music. Because the Superior boys are the real thing, so if your into good rock and not limp ... skin Buy this Cd.

4 out of 5 stars When you live and breathe music, it shows!.......2001-05-30

Want proof? They're called Mother Superior, and their songwriting and playing are some of the most passionate I've heard in years. I purchased their self-titled new release a few weeks ago. If you're a M.S. virgin, think of John Fogerty or Greg Allman backed by Thin Lizzy. Intrigued? Let's go!

First off, Jason Mackenroth drums like a fiend. On the songs "Pretty Girls" and "Radio Sucks," it sounds like he's pounding on guys' skulls in the Gobi Desert. John Bonham would be proud.

Confession: I am a sucker for funky blues riffs. Medication can't help me, but Jim Wilson does. Wilson's lead guitar flows like a Southern summer night: hot, steady and magical. You're being rocked in Daddy's arms. Listen closely to "Doghouse" or "Follow Me Home". There's a little SRV in this guy. My keyboard clatter pauses...I have no higher compliment.

Bassist Marcus Blake laces together Wilson and Mackenroth like a favorite pair of shoes. I love Blake's arty bass line on "Doghouse," but then he pummels you on "Cool Cool Breeze" within an inch of your life. THIS is what bass is supposed to sound like! Blake makes you wonder what other bass players are doing with the rest of their fingers. 'Nuff said.

Onward! A lot of the talent in producing music is in knowing when to quit, and Henry Rollins' production is wonderfully understated. (Wow--there's a name and an adjective I've never seen in the same sentence.) It's true, however--Rollins takes the raw off the steak but leaves the tracks rare and juicy on this record.
