Customer Reviews:
A very very good album.......2006-07-18
This is Clea's debut album, released when they still had 4 members - Aimee, Emma, Lysney and Chloe. Chloe quit the group after the girls had released two singles. The first two singles were "Download It" and "Stuck In The Middle."
This album is very good - Clea deserved more success then they eventually got with this CD. All the songs are catchy and fun, and the girls show they can sing - well of course they can, because they were the girls who got to the final 10 of Popstars The Rivals, the band that finally made Girls Aloud - Clea were four of the girls who didn't get in.
What are the best tracks on the album? Well, for a start, the second single "Stuck In The Middle" is a favourite of mine. The re-recorded version that is on the girls' second album Trinity is better then this version, but this song is still awesome. It's a gorgeous ballad about being in love with two guys. It has awesome music and rain effects. Another great song is "Pretty Little Bad Girl" - this one is a naughty little track with saucy lyrics and a great beat. "The Lie" is another great one, it's a melancholy song with a great chorus. "Sprung" is yet another fab track, about having a boyfriend, cheating on him and then being found out. It's bouncy, fun and catchy. "First Love" is probably the 2nd best ballad after SITM, a sweet song about your first love being your real love.
This album wasn't a hit, but I can't understand why it failed - it's a brilliant album, and very high quality. If you like Identity Crisis, check out the 3 member Clea's second album, Trinity.
Blast from the past.......2004-08-15
The influences on this album are most noticeably All Saints and Madonna- for instance, Butterflies And Rainbows is Dear Jessie/Raspberry Beret psychedelia. All Saints can be particularly heard in the songs that have been released as singles, and especially the title track, with its echoes of Pure Shores. However they do stretch further- Pretty Little Bad Girl is a surprisingly accurate rendition of 80s hair metal, of all things. I'm really struck by how much effort has gone into the production of this album. Due no doubt to the aforementioned influences it sounds pretty dated. This could easily have come out in the nineties, but that's not a bad thing. It's not flat, empty pop- the voices are not only good but distinctive in the current market, and the range of styles throughout keeps the listener interested. I really expected Friday's Child by Will Young to be a good example of quality pop but it turns out this is much better. The stand out tracks are Butterflies And Rainbows, Sprung and Download It (though I think the single version of that was slightly different for some reason, and superior). Anyway, if you were enjoying pop a few years ago and you're still enjoying it now this lovely surprise is definitely worth a listen.
A real suprise.......2004-06-20
Ok so if you dont know who CLEA are they were the girls that didnt make it into Girls Aloud. They have released two good singles so far - but have failed to set the charts alight.
Im not a huge fan but the group is made up of four girls, and they all have different voices, which blends really well togeather. Two singers in particular stand out, one has a sexy gravelly voice (bad way of describing it)which conveys some real emotion in some of the ballads and another singer has a sugar sweet voice and does all the high bits.
I am quite sceptical when it comes to any band that are spawned from tv shows, however given the chance CLEA could become a huge success. Their debut album is acclectic to say the least, and they definatly have an original sound which is doesnt enter Girls Aloud or Sugababe teratory.
The album tracks are...
*Stuck in the middle - mid-tempo ballad - but annoying intro!
*Download it - another mid-tempo track and their debut single
*Sprung - very strange but none the less an upbeat tune
*The lie - Sugababe-esqe mid-tempo track with a great big chorus
*Butterflies and Rainbows - another strange one to describe
*Pretty Little Bad Girl - nearest to Girls aloud the album gets
*One more try - one of the filler tracks quite bland and non-descript
*A guy like you - intro is misleading and sounds like Girls aloud gone indie lol - oh and a spot of rap lol
*Crush - my least favourite - such a stereotypical track, but its not awful
*First love - a nice ballad and slighty Atomic Kitten at times
*Mind Games - another tricky track to describe - lots of synths
*Identity Crisis - another interesting track upbeat and cheerful
