Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars The Exhilerating Feeling of Transition.......2004-02-16

Eyeless in Gaza's second full length album is, as the liner notes remark, "a tumult of ideas and approaches..." The most apparent thing in Caught in Flux is the powerful and tight musicianship between Peter Becker and Martyn Bates (Out From the Day-to-Day shows them in perfect sync) has developed immensely from their previous album. As in other EIG albums, the styles range from etherial and stark ballads (Sixth Sense with its haunting piano), improvised soundscapes (The Eyes of Beautiful Losers), and agressive guitar-focused post-punk (most of the album falls into this category). While the album is dynamic and engaging, many will have trouble with Martyn Bates' distorted singing/wailing/snarling style embraced here. However, once that grows on you, the album's coherency comes to light and, as always, their strength as songwriters will win you over.
