The Trouble With Sweeney is a wonderful band that you've probably never heard of, but let me assure you, they deserve to be heard. The basis for the band is the singing and song-writing of Joey Sweeney, who manages to write simple, focused songs without being cliche. Sweeney's voice sort of recalls Jeff Tweedy from Wilco's, however Sweeney's singing is much more sincere. At times the band has been labeled alt-country, but they don't have the so-called "twang" of alt-country acts. Rather, these seemingly simple pop songs are often complemented by gentle and lush (but not overwhelming) keyboards and flutes. It's really quiet unique, and forms a distinct sound which sets them apart from any other indie rock, neo-folk or alt-country act.
