4 out of 5 stars The right mix of spacey heaviness!.......2006-08-27

I took a chance on this and it was well worth it. I highly recommend this to fans of many genres (we can't escape our need to label, sorry) such as stoner rock, space rock, hard rock/metal etc.. It has a late 60's/early 70's feel at times (think Blue Cheer) while maintaining a modern day sensibilty. I guess I was looking to feed my Hawkwind/Sabbath bent, and I sure did. I'm not saying that this is groundbreaking or anything like that, but there's very little out there these days that really satisfies like this does. These guys deliver top notch chops and the singing is refreshingly well done in these days of bad vocals. The Amazon samples will be of help if you're unsure. If it sounds like something you'd like, it won't be a bad surprise like we sometimes end up with. I rarely give 5 stars, so don't be put off by the 4 stars here. I expect to possibly get a 5 star release from these guys sometime.

5 out of 5 stars into the VOID!.......2005-02-07

Cross Kula Shaker and Monster Magnet and you get a twisted space rock stoner clone called novadriver who are the best thing to come out of this millennia. You may think only 10 tracks...but behold they produce a myriad of electronica/stoner bliss. The songs 'Rocket Superstar', 'Spinning into no Future', 'Shoot the Sky' and 'Sleep' are my favourite, their timing on chords are absolutely spot on, the kind of songs you think when you listen to them 'why haven't they been done before?'. I hope this band get well known enough to get big because music of this calibur should be recognised.

4 out of 5 stars Novadriver - 'Void' (Small Stone).......2004-10-18

This is apparently the Detroit's four piece first and only CD,so far anyway. Some really good 'stoner space metal' here.I,personally think that Novadriver just MIGHT be Monster Magnet's long lost half-brother band. The tunes that I dug the most were the spacy opener "Satellite Night",the wailing "Spinning Into No Future",their potential anthem(?)"Sleep","Shoot The Sky" and their cover of Aerosmith's "Seasons Of Wither".Guitarist Billy Reedy's vocals are quite good and I wanted to mention that 'Void' most certainly has the spirit, vibe and crispness to make the ranks of a damn fine stoner release.Should appeal to fans of Atomic Bitchslap(er,I mean Bitchwax),Queens Of The Stone Age,Spirit Caravan and maybe Clutch.

4 out of 5 stars Sounds like it looks.......2004-01-21

Space rock is revived in Novadriver's "Void." Notwithstanding the somewhat critically requisite comparisons to Sabbath, Novadriver veers far closer to early Hawkwind than they do Volume 4 or Master of Reality. The music here, beginning (as one should) with the first track, is largely atmospheric and spare, even as crushing metal waits invariably in the auditory wings. Novadriver seems to have spent a good deal of effort mastering when NOT to play, which is just as important as having a good phase pedal hooked up to one's amp.

Overall, this is an extremely worthy release, leaving behind the pop of Nebula and the blues of Orange Goblin while managing to hover lighter than Solace or Kyuss. If you must call it "stoner rock," this is a better-than-average offering, and its tone is relatively unique. At once ponderous and relevant, "Void" dusts off space for a true sonic foray.
