Superb music, (maybe because) it's not really "bubblegum".......2006-01-25

The various members of 10CC always seem to provide enjoyable music in whatever guise or genre they tackle, and this is certainly the case here. The musical forms on the CD range from tropical to country to pop to "lite funk" (not much "bubblegum"), all handled capably. Shortly into the first track, I got up to read the titles to make sure I had been shipped the right CD. As always with such projects there is some "uneven-ness," but generally things here fit under a pretty tight band of professionalism.

Good To Chew, Long Lasting Flavor, and Fun!.......2005-03-21

Amazingly good collection of pre-10cc songs by these guys. Back when they tried to open their own hit factory, they were doing this stuff: they wrote, produced, arranged, engineered, sang, played phew! They basically said YES to anybody who wanted to record, and ended up driving themselves almost mad. They then started recording their own material. The very first song they recorded as 10cc was Waterfalls, followed by Donna. Released as a single, it made them a well known band quickly. Not huge until I'm Not In Love, they were still well known.

However, this collection is way before that, and as eric stewart puts it, they were "just like kids in a sandbox with lots of spades". Having their own studio meant endless recording time, and the amount of product they shoved out of strawberry studios in this time is amazing. This collection isn't quite 10cc though: it is quite varied, and diverse with lots of styles and very neat arrangement ideas, the lyrics are noticeably weaker than on their 10cc stuff. And for fans of 10cc of the Art style, as opposed to the Pop side will be annoyed with the light weight nature of this material.

However, this is HIGH quality bubblegum pop. Buy it if you love 10cc.

First-rate batch of pre-10cc pop singles.......2004-08-23

Anyone who loves the first 10cc album will enjoy this collection of 24 misc. tracks (mostly) recorded at Eric Stewart's Strawberry Studios in Stockport, England. Highlight tracks includes SILVER FLEET/Come On Plane, TRISTAR AIRBUS/Travellin' Man, FESTIVAL/Today, FESTIVAL/Warm Me, and DOCTOR FATHER/Umbopo...all of the above were produced and performed by Kevin Godley, Lol Creme, Eric Stewart and (on most tracks) Graham Gouldman.

Pre-10cc recordings by, well, 10cc.......2004-07-24

Between Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders, Graham Gouldman Experience but before Hotlegs and 10cc there were a number of other names 10cc recorded under. Working for Jeff Katz and his partner, Gouldman, Stewart, Godley & Creme wrote and recorded under a number of identities including The Ohio Express (although they had nothing to do with "Yummy, Yummy I've Got Love in My Tummy"), Silver Fleet, Doctor Father, Tristar Airbus, mahcester City, Crazy Elephant and many, many other names.

All these early recordings made either alone or in collaboration at Strawberry Studios (hence the title of the CD)are included here on "Strawberry Bubblegum". Recorded between 1969 and 1972, not all of these recordings charted or were good but most of them have more than a touch of 10cc and Godley & Creme. From the bluesy "Roll On" (recorded as Doctor Father)to the pure bubblegum psychedelic touches on "Sausaltio(is the place to Go)" this grand album is a snapshot to a simpler, cleverer time when musicians actually wrote music not sampled it.
