5 out of 5 stars Great Music.......2005-09-19

If you have never heard Josh Holmes, you are missing out!!! Josh is a great songwriter, singer, guitar player, and performer! I have been blessed to know him and watch his music grow. This CD is awesome, as are all of his CDs. Once you have the CD, you are sure to listen to it over and over again...

4 out of 5 stars Born to Perform.......2005-03-12

I was introduced to Josh when I had privilege of seeing him perform at a small, low-key coffee house out in the Chicago suburbs. I was completely blown away by his technical skill on guitar, unique vocal style, and confident stage presence. This guy was born to perform. Having said that, I think this is a good CD, filled with well written songs and clever, heartfelt lyrics. However, I think Josh should return to his roots and incorporate more of that Motown sound into his music! It's what makes him unique and sets him apart from the rest of the monotonous acoustic bums. Also this man can play guitar like no one I've ever seen, yet this album doesn't reflect the scope of that talent. I wish this CD would capture more of the "true sound" of Josh Holmes. Nevertheless, it's still a great CD.

I totally recommend this CD for fans of Howie Day, David Grey, John Mayer, and Motown. Support an artist whose talent truly deserves to be rewarded. And if you ever have the chance, go see him live! You won't regret it!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best CD's I've ever heard!!!!.......2005-01-12

This is one of the best CD's I personaly have ever heard. It is definatly a must have for a roadtrip. I would recomend this CD to anyone of any age. If you love a great voice backed up by great guitarwork strap on your headphones and enjoy:)

5 out of 5 stars Ready For The Big Time - America, meet Josh Holmes.......2004-12-22

Anyone who knows Josh Holmes also knows the man is committed to his passion - music. He has worked very hard to make a name for himself in Indiana, but it is obvious the rest of America will soon be talking about this talented musician. I do believe this is his first CD picked up by a national distributor. A sure sign that Josh is on his way to becoming very successful musician.

And now, the review - track by track:

#1. Fallen - Is the best song on the CD. It has a great entry and quickly introduces the listener to Josh's great vocals. His gritty, almost coarse, voice makes him sound like a smoother and better singing Bruce Springsteen. I think this is the song on the CD that could get a LOT of "air" play. It is very catchy and shows off Josh's ability to write lyrics and music that match up perfectly.

#2. Come Dance With Me (Layla) - Strange entry on this one. My first thought was, "Ska BAND music! Noooooooooooooo!!!!", but after the second or third time listening, I started to like it a little. The only problem is that "Fallen" is such a smooth piece of work (good rock tune) that this was too big of a bounce for the second song to be SKA-sounding.

#3. Can't Keep Running - This song is good, but I think Josh needed to mix in some unexpected changes to spice it up a bit. This one is almost too calm, but I like it better than "Come Dance With Me".

#4. Flower - Is that Lenny Kravitz? Nope, it's Josh showing he has a voice and musical ability ready for "The Big Time." Great beat, great lyrics, and Josh manages to say the word "flower" over and over again without sounding like he should be hosting "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy". No easy accomplishment.

#5. Table 4 One - Mr. Holmes really outdid himself on the lyrics for this one. Bravo! The kid from Schererville, Indiana, is capable of writing well beyond his years. And I'll bet he only gets better at his craft.

#6. For Granted - There's a message here, hidden in these lyrics that may be too deep for me to read, but I'm sure Josh wrote this one from the heart. This is not his best work, but it wasn't bad. In fact, I don't think Josh has ever written a "bad" song. This song might take a few listens to really start enjoying it.

#7. Greener On The Other Side - Smooth, easy on the ears, and, a good slow song in the beginning. Picks up later on, and that adds to its appeal. The one complaint I have is that Josh repeats "FOR YOU" way too much. He really needed to remove that REPEAT. Or at least not REPEAT it so much. Other than that one complaint, I really like this song.

#8. Don't Look Back - This song once again shows Josh's range of talent. He manages to change pitches, direction, and focus just enough to make this edgy and at the same time keep it smooth. Not even sure how he does that. Glad he does, though.

#9. Grounded - Not a good way to the end the CD. This song doesn't seem to belong with the rest of the CD. But how many CDs are without one DUD?

So there you have it, my review. Seven really good songs and two that I wasn't quite fond of. Josh Holmes is a good musician, and his CD is up to par with those already on the playground (of the music business). I think most will enjoy this CD, Table 4 One. See that buy button up there?
