Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as they are in performance........2001-08-22

I saw them perform and they were amazing. This CD is nowhere near as good.

4 out of 5 stars More fun than most strippers I've met.......1999-08-06

Music that makes you tap your toes (at times), bob your head (other times), and get up and dance (a lot of the time). These boys are smart musicians who allow you to understand creativity in rock music isn't all dead. Too bad they don't have more exposure.

5 out of 5 stars Buck Dewey Big Band = Big Fun.......1999-08-02

Friday Night Chicken Waltz is fun. It's jump on the bed fun; Slip and Slide fun; bombardment fun; Atari fun; big wheel fun; the arcade in Silver Spoons fun.

With a mix of styles, rhythyms and harmony, Friday Night Chicken waltz brings you on a fantastic journey of fun.

If you can't have fun listening to Buck Dewey Big Band's Friday Night Chicken Waltz, you are instrinsically "not fun".

5 out of 5 stars Run, do not walk.......1999-07-24

Go. Go now and get this CD. It will add that extra umpf into your day. These guys are crazy cool, tight musicians whose music still makes me boogie down with a big grin every time. It's great party music - chicks dig it.

5 out of 5 stars It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a Cowfull of Bourbon!.......1999-07-23

What can I say about the Deweys? It's more like what CAN'T I say! These five guys have put together an album that is full of joie de vivre and virtuosity. It's impossible to listen to _Friday Night Chicken Waltz_ without a grin. It's been over a year since I got the cd, at their CD release party, and a week hasn't gone by since when I haven't listened to it at least once.

A tapestry of styles and influences, the Buck Dewey Big Band grab their listeners and force them out of their seats-- this isn't sitting-still music! With nods to everyone from Charlie Mingus to the Beasties to the Muppets theme song, the Deweys incorporate varied influences without ever bowing to them: there's no copycatting here, only brilliant references to as many musical styles as will fit on one CD.

All that said: see them live!!! As good as the CD is, nothing tops a Deweys performance...these five guys play off of each other like characters in a movie, yet never seem scripted. Each member plays a role in balancing out the others, and each plays that role to a T. And the sharing of instrumental and vocal duties keeps the variety level high, and the entertainment level even higher. This is pure entertainment from a group of performers who love what they do: and it shows, translating into high-energy performances every time (and I've seen them more times than I can remember!).
