Cher: The Millennium Collection-The Best Of Cher (2000).......2005-05-12
For her first album of the 21st Century, Cher decided to release, yet, another compilation. I was kind of hoping for a new studio recorded album, but Cher fans who are beggars cannot be choosers. This compilation is entitled, 20TH CENTURY MASTERS: THE MILLENNIUM COLLECTION-THE BEST OF CHER. I know, that is a long a** title. Whew! This compilation contains all of Cher's hits from the 70s, seeming to leave out all of her 60s hits. The 70s hits are much better than the 60s hits, so this album was easy for me to enjoy.
GYPSYS, TRAMPS & THIEVES
From the album GYPSYS, TRAMPS & THIEVES (1971). Cher's first #1 hit single, and the first of three story songs. This is a song that will always be remembered by us Cher fans. I cannot get enough of this song.
THE WAY OF LOVE
From the album GYPSYS, TRAMPS & THIEVES (1971). Not bad.
TAKE ME HOME
From the album TAKE ME HOME (1979). This would be Cher's last hit single until her resurrgence in 1987. This is definitely one of Cher's best disco songs and I can't help myself when I just sit back and relax, while listening to this song.
HALF-BREED
From the album HALF-BREED (1973). Cher's second #1 hit single, and the second of three story songs. This is another classic Cher song and everybody who is a Cher fan should love this song.
TRAIN OF THOUGHT
From the album HALF-BREED (1973). No bad.
LIVING IN A HOUSE DIVIDED
From the album FOXY LADY (1972). Not bad.
DON'T HIDE YOUR LOVE
From the album FOXY LADY (1972). Not bad.
I SAW A MAN AND HE DANCED WITH HIS WIFE
From the album DARK LADY (1974). Not bad.
CAROUSEL MAN
From the album HALF-BREED (1973). Not bad.
ALL I EVER NEED IS YOU (Performed by Sonny & Cher)
From Sonny & Cher's album ALL I EVER NEED IS YOU (1972). Not bad.
I have really enjoyed this album. It was real break from Cher's 60s music. I'm wiped out from all the 60s music. This album displays Cher's best hits from the 70s, so sit back, relax, and enjoy Cher's 70s Disco period.
For God's sake, someone DON'T stop this train!.......2002-07-24
No matter how many times every comedian in America has tried to imitate her, it's true that no one before her or since ever sang quite like Cher, with her absurdly sultry and dark voice and her powerful way of phrasing. These classic songs from the start of Cher's solo career were some of the finest musical moments of the Seventies. You not only get her most famous ballads, "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves," "Dark Lady," and "Half-Breed" (dig those groovy war chants in the background during the chorus!), but you also get some of her best unknown songs: the lovely torch number "I Saw a Man" and my own very, very favorite, "Train of Thought" (why wasn't it a hit?).
Cher Marks The Millennium.......2000-08-06
Cher's griity vocals and sassy attitude mark the new Century on this memory evoking disc. All digitally re-mastered, these tracks take us back in time when music was *soda pop giggles* and *mimosa smiles*.
From the tambourine storytelling chimes of "Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves" to the emotional coupling of "All I Ever Need Is You"--a duet with Sonny Bono, this is a sexy, soulful, fun compilation.
Cher is always reinventing herself--the longevity chameleon of the music industry. A recommended addition for "best of" collections.
Thanks for your interest & comment votes--CDS
Nice Set.......2000-05-07
There are so many Cher Greatest Hits sets out there that it is almost hard to keep up with them. As far as MCA standards for Cher's hits albums have gone, this is a great one.
The great #1 story songs ("Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves", "Half Breed" and "Dark Lady") are here and sound just as good as ever.
Cher's experimentation with different types of music is shown here well. The disco hit "Take Me Home" is in an extended version here. "Living In A House Divided" starts to sound like a Motown classic with background singers chanting "tumbling down". A superb torch song "I Saw A Man and He Danced with His Wife" is just like heaven with Cher's vocals and her way of telling the story. Also a highlight is the last big duet with Sonny "All I Ever Need Is You". It sounds so convincing and to me is more romantic over "I Got You Babe" anytime.
The set has no faults at all. A great set of seventies tracks by the timeless diva.
