Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Pure fun.......2006-02-26

This is a great old mix of prarie league; I am not a hard-core fan of the band - just enjoy the music; kids like it too.

4 out of 5 stars A good value if it's what you're looking for.......2004-12-10

This is a review for the newbie's like me. Those of you that are PPL experts or fans can probably skip it.

They played the song 'Amie' to death in the 70's but after about 20 year's hiatus, I heard it on the radio the other day and decided to add it to the collection for nostalgia and to work out some of the guitar bits. Being unfamiliar with PPL's other work, this was an affordable place to start. However, there are no liner notes whatsoever making it hard to understand where each tune fits in the history of the band, who wrote it, or who is singing or playing what instrument. If you're buying a greatest-hits collection with the possibility of branching off into other albums or you want to know more about the group, this gives you absolutely nothing written to go on. The sound quality is good but probably not as sparkling as a re-mastered Greatest Hits (1999) might be. Note that members of the group Poco sing harmonies on 'Amie' but the rest of the album, while still fine, lacks that particular ambience. Also note other reviewer's comments about the sequencing on 'Falling in and Out of Love'. What's on this album is what I remember from AM and no bother whatsoever, but if you're an album oriented radio listener you may not be happy. (Harry Nilsson's greatest hits album has a similar problem where 'Me and My Arrow' doesn't, in my opinion, have enough of the narration prior to the song.)

Anyway, the price point is good if the collection suits your needs. Hope this helps you decide.

3 out of 5 stars Amie: Encore Collection.......2003-06-15

This is an eclectic collection of Pure Prairie League songs from peak periods. With contributions from early days and the band's 1981 rebound with Vince Gill, this album was a treat to listen to. However, aging rockers may recall when "Falling In and Out of Love With You" ALWAYS preceded "Amie" on AOR radio, and will be a bit dissappointed that both songs were not linked in this compilation, and may want to consider other PPL Greatest Hits collections.
