Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Why can't I give this production -1 stars ?.......2004-09-24

I don't mind taking chances on albums and not getting what I expect, and Mark Knopfler is one of the few artists for whom I will buy a title sight unseen, YET I am so bitter about this purchase, that I am posting my first and possibly only review here.

What's the problem ? Primarily, this is a CD printed and sold ONLY to capitalize on the names of MK and DE. MK is only listed for a few of the tracks, and for all I can tell, his involvement was to hold a mike for someone.

Secondly, even at his worst, MK is still interesting, either musically vocally or lyrically, in an idiosyncratic way, but this album is quite bland.

Thirdly, the material is ordinary and uninvolving; nothing about it makes me sit up and want to rewind it, or crank it, or share it with someone.

I really do believe that if MK had a say in it, this album would never have been allowed to be sold.

On the good side, I learned that "When in doubt look at the publisher name".

1 out of 5 stars Very small ice creams in very large boxes.......2004-02-07

The title in bold caps proclaims "MARK KNOPFLER & DAVE EDMUNDS," and in fine print below "The Booze Brothers by Brewers Droop." That should have been reversed. Someone is obviously trying to cash in on MK's subsequent success. Three early-70s tracks on which he allegedly picked but did not sing are the sole excuse for this album; it would not have sold without Knopfler's name on the cover. Nuf said. Unless you're dying to hear what he sounded like before he found his style.

5 out of 5 stars The Booze Brothers - Misunderstood.......2000-10-12

The negative reviewers have all missed the point of the album. Brewers Droop were a band in their own right in the 70's in the UK. They auditioned for a guitarist and Mark Knoffler applied for the job. This isn't a Mark Knoffler or Dave Edmonds album, but a Brewers Droop album. Dave Edmonds was one of the producers. The bar room humour shines through and anyone who has ever seen the band or has an interest in what Mark Knoffler sounded like when he was starting out should definately buy this album. Apart from that it's got some great songs on it.

4 out of 5 stars Good music from good guitarplaying people........2000-09-14

This album is a little underrestimated. This album is not a big blockbuster, and not so good as the Dire Straits records, and the rest of the M.Knopfler albums, but it's a very good album, anyway. M.Knopfler is the best musician on this record, and Dave Edmunds is also good, but not so skillful as MK. Dave Edmunds and the other guys does show up more then M.Knopfler in the songs. But MK is not whith on only one track here, he appears on more tracks here. Mostly on guitar. And don't forget about Pick Whiters, a great drummer, he's playing drums on some tracks.

And a very good typicall picture at MK to, from the on every street tour. Can't be wrong. He look's a little bit like me.

It's all about real rockblues music. So if you really are a great strait-fan ,and then of cause, a big MK-fan, then you better buy this Album too. / Thanks. John.L
