Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Before There Was Mel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-05-25

This album was done in the first stage of The Ventures' carear. To me, I don't think The Ventures were fully grown at the time of this recording. Every track kind of sounds the same. I like Walk Dont Run, Perfedia, and all those other early songs like that, but this album is kind of a drag. Just an average Venture fan would definitly love this cd, but for people who like 1964 on Ventures, this album is not for you.

3 out of 5 stars Run, don't walk.......2004-02-11

This CD features the Ventures first and second albums. The first album features the Ventures biggest hit, "Walk, Don't Run". Most of the rest of the album features cover of other people's instrumentals, although there are two original tunes written by the group. The second album features two hits, "Perfidia" and "Ram-Bunk-Shush". This album features no original tunes by the Ventures. This is pleasant enough music, but most of it isn't too exciting. Still, it's good that their albums are available to their fans.

5 out of 5 stars Are you kidding!?.............2003-02-15

How could someone ever compare Joe Satriani and Queen to the early Ventures work? The Ventures were innovators......INNOVATORS!....., their music is timeless. I was a fan of Joe Satriani growing up and his music is NOT, by any stretch of the imagination, TIMELESS!!! As for Queen, they're not even an intrumental band! Comments like that are ridiculous. Early Ventures music holds up against the finest music of 60s. Cheers!

3 out of 5 stars Faulty memory..........2002-01-14

...or, more accurately, refined ear. These are the albums that
taught me to play guitar, and ,for that, I will always love them.
But, listening with an ear which has had 40 years to refine itself, they sound raw and unpolished. They are evocative, but
face it - this ain't Queen or Satriani on guitar. It's a couple
of boxers and surfers playin' geetar. It is interesting to hear
guitar players who started the whole 'music by the common man'
phenom, though (I make my living playing guitar because of these
cats), and my hat would be off to them, if I wore a hat. Thanks,
