Customer Reviews:
lolz.......2006-12-15
Readers here should note closely the rhetoric of Rice fans. One describes his noise - admitting it is just noise - as "heart wrenching" music. I don't know how noise can be heart-wrenching, but this "evil" guy claims it is. Another says those who do not know Rice are "ignorant". Another calls him "dark", "magnificent".
As a matter of fact, Rice is talentless. That he made a bunch of noise records proves one of two things:
a) He is so awesomely, wantonly talented that he felt comfortable putting out noise, so confident was he of his musical prowess;
b) He is so wantonly untalented that he could do nothing but record clicks and loop them around and smack some hard-sounding titles on them to make money and bolster his reputation so he can get laid more.
Which do YOU think it is?
Rice draws about 90% of his reputation, ultimately, from the gullibility of arthouse decadents, who will rush to his defense with lines like: "He's not a Nazi! he's misunderstood!" Such rhetoric gives him more illusion, more cachet than he has ever deserved. But he thrives on that very thing. The more you say Rice is "controversial" (where? to whom?), the more you stoke his ego. What is controversial -- that he knew LaVey? Big deal. LaVey was a toad. Satanism is for 13 year olds. "Mysticism" is for fat girls who go to "renaissance faires". Not for grown men, not for straight thinkers, not for those with good taste, and especially not for those with definite political opinion. Rice scrapes up reputation points from fools. That's all.
awesome music disturbing idealogy.......2005-07-30
NON has some awesome noize music. In todays world of hatred , racism , intolerance and apathy- the mindset of this self proclaimed neo-nazi , and head of the church of satan (i do believe this is correct, or at one time was with Michael Monhiyan)-- it is not a needed thing. I love his music- his solo stuff but as I matured and decided to be an adult- I put away childish things and the need for an image of intensity. take it for what it is- make up your own mind--- enjoy the noise- follow your heart and mind about his beliefs and rationalization. We must not forget that htis is the same Boyd Rice who fought in the 1970's for the release of Charles Manson from prison.Dont believe it- do your research--- it is in the Re-Search books , the Industrial Revolution issue that features Cabs, TG , EN ,PTV etc. Dont let my knowledge and opinions make up your mind- listen and make up your own.As I said--- musically- Boyd / NON is a genius for his noise and other "poppier" sounds he has done.
How does he do it?.......2005-01-04
This is just loops. Just drones. That's it. Nevertheless, some of the most heart wrenching music of our age. Scary and very beautiful.
Gather Round Children.......2004-07-20
Boyd Rice is one of the great unsung heroes of our time. Let's face it most people don't know who Boyd is but that is only due to their ignorance. This muli-talented artist is know to we the select few and that's the way it should be. "Children of the Black Sun" is a sonic insult and complement at the same time. It creates a mood that uleashes an unlimited amoumt of emmotions all meant to harden the metal of your soul and spine. Live for you.. live for life ... defend your right to survive. The only short coming is the DVD. Why it exists is beyond me. CUT IT OUT!
Beautiful, dark, transfixing........2004-01-04
Boyd Rice (Non) has created another masterpiece. Children Of The Black Sun is an enthralling work of art that entrances and captivates from beginning to end. Many of the songs on this album are closely connected, and have an overall feeling of being movements from a singular piece rather than separate songs altogether.
From the first song, "Arka", a mood of unrest and impending evil is invoked. The song slowly builds into the chilling "Black Sun". The moods and textures on this album are generally ambient, unsettling, and darkly cold, yet hypnotic and calming at the same time. When listened to as an entire experience, the album can be described as a subtly woven canvas of all shades in the spectrum. Songs like "The Fountain Of Fortune" are radiantly beautiful, and the last song, "Son Of The Sun", though very short, is majestic and haunting.
Children Of The Black Sun is an emotional journey that is meant to be experienced as an entire piece - a beautiful sculptural sound work of art. It is not an album for the casual listener, however. Children Of The Black Sun is very subtle and very intense, and would perhaps bore or maybe even frighten the pop-oriented casual listener.
If you are a fan of Non's other instrumental works, such as Blood And Flame or Receive The Flame (especially the latter), you would most likely enjoy Children Of The Black Sun - I highly recommend this album.
