Album Description

Remember the days when you'd buy a record and it took you on a journey, from beginning to end?! That's what ROB HOTCHKISS has created with MIDNIGHT GHOST. This solo offering from TRAIN's founding member begins where the GRAMMY-AWARD-WINNING band's first record left off. Fans of the more rootsy, early TRAIN will find the guitar-driven, introspective approach to MIDNIGHT GHOST refreshing. ROB HOTCHKISS has teamed up with original and former members of COUNTING CROWS (Steve Bowman and Dave Bryson) to make the kind of record that you'll put back on when it's finished.

5 out of 5 stars Where is the follow up CD ?.......2006-09-07

Okay Mr. Hotchkiss, after buying and giving away 57 of the Midnight Ghost Cd,s, all the Art Schools are wanting to hear your second Break out cd..This music is being incorperated in many artistic productions, recitals, and short films, in large part, due to the magnificent quality and feeling that is expressed in this meaningful production of songs..As a Professor of Artistic Developement, for several proffesional schools and venues worldwide, I encourage Rob to keep writing, playing, and entertaining, with the same insight you have always used..I am also using the cd in my teachings for the International House of Blues Education Foundation..So we are now waiting for production number 2..Your failures and accomplishments in the past have brought you to a level that all true listeners and musicians will appreciate, unless they of course hold some type of meaningless grudge..The artists and groups I know and work with, would welcome the opportunity to have Rob collaborate with them, whenever he once again feels as though it is time for him to go back out on the mainstage..This cd shows what a truly talented artist can do when finally given the chance to follow their Karma and let the inner artist shine through..

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2006-09-06

Reading some of the reviews of this record, it's obvious that some of the old Train fans are angry that Rob left the band. It's easy to see why. Listening to Midnight Ghost, I realize that in losing Rob, Train lost their finest songwriter. This CD is filled with the kind of material i WISH Train was still capable of creating. This is one of the finest recordings I've heard in many years!

5 out of 5 stars Refreshing and inspiring.......2004-09-17

I have always been a major fan of Train, from the good old days of the self titled album, to the latest releases and even the covers and songs that never made it to an album release. From listening to 'Midnight Ghost', you can easily see just how much of an influence Rob was to the band. His solo album is reminisent of the old Train style of writing and performance, focusing predominantly on the music wich tantilates the senses. This is pure easly listening music, full of meaning and personality which is duely missed amoungst many major acts within the UK and the mainstream music industry. From the country feel of 'It's Alright' to the contravercial notions played upon within 'Try' Hotchkiss joyfully enbarks us on a journey throughout his album. The not so well known 'Stay' which was once recorded by Train is portrayed in a new and well accepted form which is obviously derived from Hotchkiss' personality and sounds remarkably fresh even though the song was writen almost ten years ago. One can only hope that Mr Hotchkiss continues in his persue of music and gives us many more enjoyable songs in the near future.

5 out of 5 stars This is what you should be listening to.......2004-08-12

Leave the writing to Pat Monahan? YES!! But only if you want dated, cheesy lyrics such as "I put ketchup on my scrambled eggs" and "I'm the leftover turkey for the world's mayonnaisey." Now that's what I call a "special" writer. I am a Train fan, but Mr. Monahan's lyrical talent took a detour somewhere during the recording of their last release. I am not surprised Mr. Hotchkiss decided to distance himself. It made me cringe and all I had to do was listen to the songs, not actually perform them.

If you want cookie-cutter pop rock, don't buy "Midnight Ghost." If you want music that is written for the sake of generating that "radio friendly hit," don't buy this album. You will be disappointed and well, your taste in music is not all that great.

"Midnight Ghost" is full of songs that are honest and written from the heart. It is untouched by the hands of those who are ruining music for the sake of the almighty dollar. It is a refreshing change from what's being force-fed to the masses on a daily basis. It is music that you can enjoy, music that you can share with others - without cringing.
