To remix or not to remix? Are four versions of the same song a really cool idea, or should we be content with the artist's original intentions? Leaether Strip's Yes--I'm Limited, Vol. II doesn't so much answer that question as pose a new one: what if the original material wasn't all that wonderful to begin with? The 11 tracks on this disc comprise alternate versions of a total of just four songs, all taken from LS's lackluster 1996 album The Rebirth of Agony. The remixers are industrial dance music's leading lights--folks like Funker Vogt, Apoptygma Berzerk, and Trylok--but only Controlled Fusion manage to tease some drama out of this collection, notably on their take on "You Know Where to Put It." Completists will probably want this, but those who are looking for an introduction to LS should instead check out 1993's blistering Solitary Confinement. --Steve Landau
Customer Reviews:
Brilliant RMX Album.......2001-11-19
This is one of those remix albums where almost all of the mixes are better than the original versions. That does not really come as a surprise when you look at the list of remixers: Among others, Apoptygma Berzerk (who deliver, as always, the very best version), Funker Vogt, In Strict Confidence, and Lights of Euphoria - all bands that are not only known for their great music, but also for a hell of a lot of brilliant remixes.
If you're a Leather Strip fan, you gotta get this album anyway, but you even might enjoy it if you're not into Claus Larsen's work, because most of the songs are turned into electro-dancefloor-songs that range from very technoid to rather old-school EBM beats.
To me, it's by far the best Leather Strip CD out there. So go get it!
booooooooooooooring, or how to make you hate good songs.......2001-08-02
ok, this is a remix album... but why not a little more variety in it? as always happens with all this projects, some remixes are good, some are mediocre, some are bad... but here I started to hate the songs 'cos the remixed songs are always the same: 'How do I know?', 'You know where to put it' are repeated till boredom. this cd is really really boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring, and it doesn't deserve a better review.
