Customer Reviews:
again and again.......2007-05-11
This record is a impressive portrait of how diverse and talented Alexander Hacke is -from the movie soundtrack "Sonntag" to the throat singing in "Brush/Throat" to the rock elements of "Sanctuary" and back to electronic "All american Happy Hour" -it is like a journey from one part of Alexander Hacke to another -no wonder he calls it his Road record ..The ease in which he moves in the different music realms -electronic as acoustic is amazing and proves that Alexander Hacke is a lot more than just the bass player of Einstürzende Neubauten. My favorite tracks are "Per Sempre Butterfly" with Gianna Nannini for its melancholic romantisism,"Sanctuary" for its hard core power and Seven - the mixture of experimental sounds and heavy beats is great -I can listen to the record over and over again and always hear something new and intriguing. The small hidden video documentary of Danielle de Picciotto is fun too - most of the many musicans participating on the record can be seen here.
new experience.......2005-12-06
I first heard "per sempre butterfly" and "sonntag" from a play list and was immediately hooked. Per sempre butterfly is now one of my favorites, and because of it I am looking into getting more of Gianna Nannini's music. Contrary to an earlier reviewers comments, the lyrics of the various pieces are not all in English. Per Sempre is in Italian, Sonntag is in German, etc. The style of music from piece to piece is very different, yet not jarring. I am buying the album and look forward to hearing it all.
Not For E.N. Fans Only.................2005-10-10
The best way to describe this solo work by Alexander Hacke is that it is NOT an Einsturzende Neubauten record. The music is not nearly as experimental and all lyrics are "sung" in English which kind of sucks. The opening track is very odd in which it is a repetitive rant of a female martial arts instructor shouting out instructions as to how to protect yourself from being sexually assaulted. At first it seems riduculous but then it kind of grows on you not to mention that the suggestions could probably end up saving someone from being attacked. The rest of the record is pretty decent but at times a bit disjointed in that not all the songs flow very well together. Although this cd grew on me over time I still feel a bit disappointed that it's not as experimental as one would have hoped.
