Hawkwind - 'Canterbury Fayre 2001' (Voiceprint).......2004-09-28
This isn't by far Hawkwind's best live release,by any means.Nonetheless,it's still decent. The line-up is Brock, violinist Simon House, bassist Alan Davey, synth king(as far as I'm concerned)Keith Kniveton, drummer Richard Chadwick and guest vocalist Arthur Brown. The setlist is probably the best thing about 'Canterbury...' as I was glad to hear "Fifth Second Of Forever",House's timeless gem "Spiral Galaxy","Spirit Of The Age","Magnu","Hurry On Sundown","Void Of Golden Light" and "Ejection".The only downside of this entire 2-CD import is Arthur Brown's dismal vocals on "Silver Machine".It was hard to take.Good thing is Brown only appears on one track where he sings. His "Arthur's Poem" is okay.Anytime I listen to this CD,I usually just skip track one on disc two where "Silver Machine" is.Overall,I'd say that 'Canterbury Fayre 2001' is a good release. Not great, you understand, but good.
If you liked Live 79 you'll love this..........2004-01-13
I'm was amazed they could still sound so good. This full live show, from 2001, recaptures the spirit of the classic 79-82 band, partly through Huw Lloyd Langton's characteristic playing. They take on a selection of classic tracks, and manage to arrange the older ones so as to sound both faithful and fresh. Here and there the vocals slip off pitch, and the mix is poor for the first minute or so - but these are just signs of a live-no-overdubs festival recording...
