Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars I agree that kireviewer doesn't know music.......2005-10-03

In Italy de Andre' is viewed as much as a poet as musician. Hence not understanding the words will be a major hindrance to any reviewer, let alone one as bad as kireviewer.

5 out of 5 stars kireviewer doesn't know music.......2004-04-08

Such moronic comments about Fabrizio De Andre are nearly laughable.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this to hear PFM.......2003-09-05

This is not really a PFM album. PFM only plays accompaniment. They are in the background and never break out. It could be anyone backing this singer. Only Premoli, Mussida and diCiocci remain from the original PFM band.

This is from a concert tour in 1979, where PFM backed up Italian pop singer Fabrizio De Andre. He sings in as style similar to Enlgish pop stars like Tom Jones or Englebert Humperdink, only he is not as melodic. He almost speaks the words in some parts.

De Andre was an Italian protest/folk singer, similar to Bob Dylan. He also was influenced by jazz. But, none of that is a apparent here. The music is basic smarmy pop. Since I don't understand Italian, the whole thing comes off as your basic pop concert, where the singer rips open his shirt to show the hair on his chest.

PFM used to be a very innovative progressive rock band, that played fantastic jams in concert. But, after trying to make it in the US and getting nowhere, the band switched to pop music. The band has recently gone back to its progressive roots and released a very nice live album called Live in Japan.

This is volume 1 of a two volume set. I must admit that I have only heard volume 2. I am guessing that there isn't much diffeence between the 2.

5 out of 5 stars When poetry meets progressive rock.......2003-03-14

If you are curious about the blend of poetry and progressive rock, this is it. A beautiful historical performance of Fabizio de Andre (an icon among the Italian singer/songwriters of the 70's and 80's) together with Italy's most outstanding progressive rock groups - Premiata Forneria Marconi. This selection contains some of the most beautiful italian songs ever composed. PFM brings creativity in the musical arrangement of de Andre's touching lyrics. A true emotional experience. Never to be repeated. De Andre died in January 1999. He lives though through his creative legacy. This CD is a part of it. Make it yours.
