SOUL EFFING DECISION.......2006-04-30
This is one of my all time favorite cd's!.......2002-09-06
What was I thinking?.......2002-05-04
To put it bluntly, I am quite certain that most of the people buying this cd will be hormone ridden girls between the ages of 8-12. I guess it hadn't occurred to me that the time that that happens to be the target group for boy bands these days. Even at age 16 when that nasty 'boy-band-liking' virus polluted me, the music still felt too immature for me. The love ballads are about as corny, dull, and plentiful as a bad recurring nightmare with a few small breaks of tempory, fading hope in between. "Only in my mind" tries to break the struggle between these horrible fluffy love songs and monotonous songs that are plainly [duplicate] works that could just as well be dung by groups like the backstreet boys or O town--but then that is probably the idea here anyway. Good looking guys...wretched material. The one good thing about all of this is that the songs are pretty short ( as most meaningless pop songs are ). I'm not slamming boy bands in particular ( I am actually a closet N'sync fan ) but you'll get this cd home, listen to it for the firt time and at best be optimistic that it may grow on you,...listen again and realize that the songs have already gotten to sound pretty old and washed out. This may be appealing for all the tenni boppers who will plaster pin-ups of the semi attractive blond guys on their wall with all the rest of the boy bands but even if you just like good pop music, you won't be impressed with this one. I drones on until finally you lose all sense of why you bothered buying the album in the first place.
Now 3 years later and well beyond the days of pop worshipping, I can say that "Faded" and "Oooh, it's.." still appeal to me for their catchy dance beat but the rest of the album will probably never inconvenience my ears again. I'll probably keep this cd for those two songs and perhaps for a good laugh at what 'used' to be popular 10 or 15 years down there road. But just to keep it fair, so that you know that I'm not just giving this 1 star because I dislike the whole boy band genre, I would Highly recommend N'Sync's "No strings attatched" instead of this. Even now as a fully converted electro/synth/goth fan I can most honestly say that I still enjoy that album. Even the mushy love songs that I will never truly care for no matter who sings them, sound better than the ones featured here.
It hasn't been that long since these bands were popular but I feel nostalgic already.
A Very Good Album, With Plenty of Fun Tracks.......2001-07-10
1. Ooh It's Kinda Crazy - A popular song, with good vocals from the lead singer. Kind of breathy and high-pitched. "Thought I had someone that I could fall in love with, someone who would treat me right - So I tried to be so kind, thought for sure I'd make you mine." RATING: 8/10
2. No One Does It Better - Title Track, Not particularly one of my favorites, but sweet. A slow ballad, romantic. "I don't want anybody else, it's true - no one does it better than you." RATING: 7/10
3. I Don't Need Anyone - A little S-Club7ish, but upbeat and very fun. A party song of sorts. "I Don't Need Anyone to tell me I'm wrong, I know that you love me." RATING: 8/10
4. Feelin' You - Some exotic sounds in the opening, swanky vocals. A low-key song, overall, very good. "Got to get to know you better, I envision us together." RATING: 8/10
5. Faded - A great, funky opening, with some great guitar in there. The song, overall, is one of the best on the album. Fun to dance to! "I don't wanna be rude at all, I just wanna be where you go, think what we could do alone..." RATING: 9/10
6. Let's Do It Right - Beautiful piano in the opening, soft vocals. Violin in there too. A very pretty ballad. "When you're all that I am, and all that I need, beside me forever, you're all that I see." RATING: 7/10
7. Only In My Mind - Great uptempo beginning, kind of techno. A really fun song, with awesome lyrics and vocals. Another fun one to dance around to. "I close my eyes and fantasize, of you right in front of me ..." RATING: 8/10
8. Stay - Reminded me a little of "Faded", has a good tempo, a good party song to dance to. "I'm not the kind of guy that thinks that I should own you, I don't think that's how love is meant to be." RATING: 7/10
9. Baby Come Back - Slow opening, a good chorus, but otherwise, not one of my favorites. I think they can do better than this. "The times that I made you cry, I'm sorry, don't you say goodbye, I wish I had the chance to love you more." RATING: 6/10
10. Gravity - A cute, party song, with fun vocals and instrumentals. One of the best on the album, in my opinion. "Your indeniable, truly unbelievable, and suddenly achievable, if only I could speak my mind." RATING: 9/10
11. Next Time - A good, raw track, energetic. A good choice for the final track. "The further you stood from me, to get to you, the harder I tried." RATING: 8/10
