Customer Reviews:
A cd that sits with your favorite book or painting........2002-09-22
I cannot say enough about this cd. It is frightningly dark, rich in achievement in that it hypnotizes and takes you away much like your favorite novel or work of art. It has the intensity of a crime scene photo mixed with hope and innocence. Lush string instruments intertwine, her angelic poetic voice and rollercoaster mix of styles(folk, celtic jazz, pop?classical etc)make you wonder if you come upon some secret artist that has been hidden. The lyrics are literary minded never cliche but hard to understand. That is my only gripe besides wanting to buy more!

Atmosphere in spades.......2002-05-11
I first saw Kaitlyn Ni Donovan when she played guitar with the Portland band High Violets. I then got turned on to Songs for Three Days. After many, many times listening, I can sum it up by saying the music on this CD is mesmerizing. I recommend listening to it all the way through in one sitting for maximum effect. The atmospheric arc that is covered from the beginning of the CD to the end is what's most remarkable. In a subtle way, many moods are evoked.
Katilyn Ni Donovan's voice is bell-clear, pitch-perfect and quite sexy in understated way. And that's not even mentioning her skill as an instrumentalist. She plays both the violin and the guitar with confidence and no shortage of skill.
You cannot go wrong with this CD. I look forward to Kaitlyn's next effort.
Eerily gorgeous.......2002-01-17
This is an absolutely stunning album. Its principal achievement, I feel, is the way in which it very insinuatingly and gracefully creates a kind of total atmosphere of sound, and how that atmosphere comes to envelop you, and suggest moods. The music reminds me very much of a Diane Arbus photograph, for instance. Both gorgeous and eerie--eerily gorgeous--at the same time. There is something deeply sad about it, but the sadness becomes liberating and even reassuring. I can't listen to it enough.
