5 out of 5 stars HOLS keep wandering around..........2001-11-18

For fans of live music (especially in the Midwest) it's no secret that House of Large Sizes are not to be missed, so it's a little surprising that it's taken them a dozen or so years to put a live album out. It was worth the wait, though. Since the release of Glass Cockpit the band has achieved a stunning maturity that is apparent all over Idiots Out Wandering Around...not only that, but this record features their best drummer yet (and there's been a handful) in Brent Hanson.

I've been following this band so long that I can't even compare their sound to another band (they sound just like HOLS, though). If I had to take a stab, I'd say it's a lot of Minutemen with a little AC/DC and a little Cheap Trick...it's punk rock with the Midwest smile. Smart lyrics, bouncing bass lines and Dave Deibler's roaring guitars make this record a veritable greatest hits package for fans and there isn't a slow spot in the 22 tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Great HOLS, as usual.......2000-07-18

Fantastic cd. I might recommend Glass Cockpit for people new to House because it is shorter. This is a must have. And yes, they are the greatest live band in America. Great energy.

5 out of 5 stars I WAS THERE!.......2000-07-02

This is the best HOLS album yet! I have a special tie to this recording in the fact that I was bouncing at Steb's in Cedar Falls the night that the tracks were recorded (thanks, Ivonne! ). In the course of my bouncing days, I have heard many bands with many styles and I can honestly say that HOLS is the best small club band hands down. Add to this that Dave, Barb, and Brent are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Their energy output at their shows is unparalelled. It's obvious that they believe in what they are doing. As far as the record goes, the recording itself is of superior sound quality and the track selection is very representative of what you would get if you were there. Dave's guitar rampage is at it's peak and Barb's bass just plain rocks. I also think the group's sound is tighter now with the addition of Brent at the drums. I own all available recordings from these guys and even some that are not available :) Idiot Out Wandering Around in THE must have HOLS album. I live in Atlanta, GA now I can also say that I have yet to see a band that puts on a better show! Not to mention that if you sit down and consider the lyrics, you just might learn something. I hope that HOLS will tour down this way. I have seen them more times than I can remember, but I still would never miss a chance to go again.
