Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Classic sounding, hope to catch a show.......2001-08-23

These guys put out a great studio album and, as with most swing bands, are probably much better in concert than on the disc. The swing on this disc is moderately paced, and performed with precision. I love this disc because it makes me feel as if it could actually be on the radio back in the 40's. I love that nostalgic feeling, but that doesn't mean that the recording quality is excellent, for a band this size it is. I love where they've taken a few of these classic songs. They aren't extremely innovative, or new approaches, but they impose their own style and flavor unobtrusively making this album extremely enjoyable. Check these guys out, they aren't Cherry Poppin', Squirrel Nut Zippers, or Royal Crowne, but they are great. We need more classic sounding swing like this.

5 out of 5 stars Come and Get It!!.......2001-03-23

The Chazz Cats are the best performance band I've seen, and this CD somehow manages to capture the musical energy they have in performance. When I can't go to see them live, listening to this disc is the next best thing.

The mandolin and occasional fiddle provide a great variation on the "standard" swing band instruments, while the guitar, sax and clarinet are superb examples of tradition. All demonstrate absolutely excellent improvisational skills - the only thing better is to hear different improv each time they play live.

The vocalists too are top-notch. Each song tells a story that's just as much in the intonation of the singer as in the vocals written by the lyricist. For a special treat, check out "Shine", "You Came a Long Way from St. Louis" and D'lilah's counterpoint verse in "The Sheik of Araby". Mind-blowing!

Don't miss this CD!

4 out of 5 stars Sultry.......1999-06-05

An excellent example of a 90s group taking old tunes and revamping them. I stumbled across their web site and immediately ordered the CD. I was quite taken with D'lilah's steamy vocals, especially on "Come and Get It." I'm eagerly awaiting the release of their new CD.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best swing bands around........1998-09-28

The Chazz Cats are a San Francisco based swing band and anyone who has seen them perform knows just how exiciting and fun a good swing band can be. With their CD "Roadhouse Swing" The Chazz Cats have sucessfully blended Swing music with blues. The CD ranges from the energetic "The Joint is Jumping" to the mellow and sultry "Gee Baby Ain't I good to you." Along the way you will fall in love with the talented and sexy voice of their lead singer, D'lilah Monroe (the gem of the band) who's every note seems to drip honey. The Chazz Cats are loaded with talent and display that talent well. This CD accomplishes something most bands cannot do, it is easy to get up and swing to or it is nice to sit back and relax or unwind to. I have heard a lot of Swing Bands, especially with the resergence in the popularity of Swing, and the Chazz Cats are definatly one of the best around.
