Turn it up and enjoy!.......2003-06-28

Wolfe evokes the broad heritage of the Blues- whether it be the resonator-slung guitarist passionately extolling the vicissitudes of life, or those searing sonic solos that emanate as if they're hard-wired from the performers heart directly to his fingers. While these acknowledgments to the genres predecessors (Hendrix, Gallagher, SRV, etc) are evident within the CD, it's also evident that Wolfe himself is contributing to this rich history with his own exceptional playing, tonality and delivery.

Wolfe is a guitar player, vocalist and writer (with writing credits on 9 of the 11 songs on the album) of extraordinary talent. While his biography mentions the many blues luminaries with whom he's toured, what cannot readily be gleaned from a bio is the artist's command of the instrument in concert. After seeing him perform live on several occasions (the first time opening for Jimmie Vaughan at BB Kings in NYC where he drew a standing ovation), it's no longer a surprise to see the audience simultaneously rise out of their seats while unknowingly wearing loopy grins of wonder on their faces.

While perhaps Wolfe's soulful tone, at times searing or soaring depending on the song, is due in part to his predilection for old Gibson Firebirds, it's likely more attributable to decades of playing in both small roadhouses and large stadiums across the country. The albums highlights are many- the solo in "Light of Day" sounds like eggs sizzling-up on the surface of the sun, while "On The Run" offers a rapid flow of Tex-Mex fretwork that'd have Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid playing air guitar while they run from the law.

The man and his music are exceptional. Turn it up and enjoy!

This Wolfe HOWLS!.......2003-06-27

I challenge anyone who "gets" the blues to not love this cd. It has everything one could ask for and more. The blues aspect of this cd is very strong but also the vocals,lyrics and music are wonderful. On top of all that, it is a pleasure to sit back and listen to Mr. Wolfe's guitar playing. (If one can actually sit back while listening) If he doesn't move you, then you better check your pulse. I am looking forward in the future to purchasing any of Wolfe's music. I recommend that you do the same.

Wolfe nails it!.......2003-06-25

Keeping traditions alive and adding a personal character to the blues, this rocking album has really nailed it! Having played with many of the greats of our time, including the legendary EC, you can hear the influences that have been handed down to Wolfe. In fact Todd Wolfe is becoming a legend of his own, for those who have heard him live. His playing is mature, virtuosic and deep. Solos get increasingly inventive. The trade-off solos on this album, with John Popper taking us into new territory, pushing blues into an avant-garde place that most jam bands only can wish to get to. Still, he's smart enough to know the value of a good hook; when to keep the songs gut level, when to take us to the stratosphere and when to bring it all back home.
I think once word gets around and people hear this, they'll recognize that Wolfe is one of the most amazing rock and blues guitarists in the short history of this art. His soulful singing and tight band complete the picture. Every song is a gem. This album has been on my CD player non-stop!

Blues that Rock!.......2003-06-25

Maybe the others who reviewed this never played the cd. Wolfe is awsome. The boys got chops and his band's sound is currently unsurpassed on the small venue circut in the great North East. Then again I've only played the cd 20 or so times and heard them live 8 times in the past year. The new CD, Deleware Crossing, is even better and gets five stars, why don't you have that one for sale?

Can't always trust the reviews.......2003-03-06

This is fairly standard blues fair without a great deal of ability or originality. This grunge blues thing is done 100 % better by MIKE HENDERSON and the BLUEBLOODS on their 2 CD's.
The guitar playing is average at best. Not one memorable solo or song. The best track is BLACK NIGHT ( an old standard ) and even that is nothing special. The original material makes you wish for more covers as they never reach any hights.
I can see why there are many ... copies on the second hand market, mine will go the same way again as there are so many outstanding CD's in this genre and this is definitely a very weak effort.
P.S.... yes I listened to this CD about a dozen times before writting this and yes it is as bad as that.
