This "Adventure" is enthralling and endless..........2005-02-24

I bought this CD because they were on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV soundtrack, and I checked out some samples, and liked what I heard. After ordering the CD, I listened to it, and initially didn't pay too much attention to it. After a few months I decided to give it another go, and that was when it really hooked me in. Jennifer Turner has an amazing voice, and every song on the CD is so perfect and different, I can't help but be enamored with this CD. It's a shame they never released a follow-up CD. I'm sure it would have gone further and farther than this one, which would have been a huge feat. This CD is amazing, and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. Highly reccomended!

Not too adventurous but a good debut nonetheless.......2004-01-19

As far as debut albums go these days, Furslide's "Adventure" shows a lot of promise, even if it isn`t exceptional. The band isn`t really indie rock, but isn`t too mainstream either, so it mixes a bit of both to create a pleasant record that`s worth talking about. It is, pherhaps, a bit derivative: at parts it comes close to Garbage or Fiona Apple territory, while in other segments I can see echoes of Ani di Franco, the Breeders or even Sheryl Crow (although better). Jennifer Turner`s voice can get raw ("Bring You Down")or more delicate ("Faith") and it truly shines in "Love Song", probably the best moment in the album.
Although it isn`t a superb record and has actually some filler songs, "Adventure" is an interesting effort that deserves some time in one`s CD-Player. Recommended.

Diverse debut.......2003-03-21

I first heard of Furslide probably the same way most people have, from the Buffy soundtrack. I'd bought several albums of artists I'd heard on the soundtrack - Four Star Mary, Garbage, K's Choice - and never been disappointed, so when I saw Furslide's album in a charity store I snapped it up. Signed up to Nellee Hooper's record label Meanwhile, Furslide deliver the kind of debut album that there should be more of. If the track from the Buffy soundtrack was anything to go by - Over My Head - Adventure should have been chock full of goth-pop. Instead I started listening to the album and realised that this was a band that wasn't afraid to venture into new territories rather than conform to the norm.

As goth-pop they'd have reached a certain audience, but by combining this element with punky guitar riffs and gorgeous vocals on a few non-sickly ballads, Furslide's debut album will actually impress far more people, and made far more of an impression on me. Jennifer Turner used to be lead backing guitar for Natalie Merchant, but Furslide's music is definitely far removed from that style. What's great though is that this doesn't seem like a concept album, another desperate attempt to pander to critics. The earnest approach makes this debut seem genuine rather than another marketting tool. Admitedly there are plenty of pop hooks here that help the individual songs stand out, and this may have an adverse effect on their credibility. However, if you listen to the lyrics any qualms about whether they're pop or not will disappear (the notion that pop music can't be good anyway is a ridiculous notion). In particular My Friend's Gallery and Hawaii, both songs far removed from each other musically, have lyrics that nearly everyone will be able to identify, such as the chorus of the former that shouts 'The lonelier the better'. The upbeat songs are good fun as well, especially Skinny Girl and Today Forever. It's only on the bonus track, The Cleaning Lady, that Furslide really stumble, but that's only a bonus track so it's easy to ignore. It's not hard to see why Hooper was so impressed by the band. They're original without being too obscure to reach a wide audience and they make great music.

Amazed!!!.......2001-06-18

WOW!!!!This band goes from alternative bouncy, to angry chick, to dreamy and soft. This cd amazingly flips from one type of song to the next. Not one track is really the same, and that's my ideal band! You can't get bored with this cd, and you fall in love with it. My personal favorites were "Skinny Girl" and "Faith" as well as "Postcard". Trust me, this cd is worth it! I give you my word!
