4 out of 5 stars Hand Me the Binoculars, Please.......2003-10-04

Don Dixon has worked as a producer with R.E.M., Tommy Keene, Smithereens, Richard Barone & James McMurtry. This is my second set of his as performer; the first being 1985's "Most of the Girls Like to Dance." He's a soulful folkie as a singer who lets you settle into the total groove of a song without vocal pyrotechnics. Mitch Easter's drums on "Tax the Churches" make it one the funkiest tracks. His wife Marti Jones adds vocals to "Decline & Fall" with pulsing piano and bass. "All I Wanted" is a haunting stream of consciousness, "Life is full of abstract rules, if I'd gotten everything I'd wanted, I'd have stolen everything from you." My 2 favorite tracks come in the middle,"High Night for the Tide" is a classic track with Marti Jones' vocals counterpointing Don's "Life, life" hypnotic chorus. Don's folkie chorus on "Then I Woke Up" is catchy on this track that has me hitting the repeat button. "Digging A Grave" has guitar and piano lines crisscrossing with fuzz guitar giving a great groove. The songs on "The Invisible Man" are quirky, but they hit the mark more often than not. When Dixon is good, he's one you won't want to miss. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars I'm biased, but he still rules!.......2001-05-29

Don Dixon is one of the true survivors of fads and haircuts that have come and gone. Don's still here. I'm biased since I know him, but forget about that. His music is so subtly powerful, he knows just which part of you to grab...if you know what I mean. I hope to see him soon- Marti, too. I will purchase this CD within the next 48 hrs. Keep up the good work, Don. You're marathon is hardly over. C.R.
